I am so thankful for this young mans release. FINALLY! Unless you have come out of the kind of abuse this family did, it is impossible to relate and understand the hold such evil can have on you. Fear is a terrible thing that can keep you from doing things and yet can drive you to do things you would not otherwise do. Even a dog will come out biting after enough beatings. Seeing a parent or grandparents violence can reprogram your mind to what is "normal". If my Mother wouldn't have left my Dad when she did I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that my brother would have killed him or vice versa. At 60 years old I still dream about it and am very fearful in life. My GOD bless you every day of your lives.

I served a few years with Billy. We worked together. Yeah, in the warehouse. Billy needs lots of support now. Possibly more than while he was in prison. I know personally the way prison twists a mans personality, attitude, and general outlook on life. Good luck dude. Not everyone is out to get you. Relax. Enjoy life, but not too much. Don't let things get out of control. Be good bro. Be good.

William, I'm so glad that you figured all of this out from a episode of Dateline. You should be a FBI profiler. Whether you agree with the verdict or not, this KKK business is ridiculous. Unlike you, I live in Long county and I have never heard of any of these people being in the Klan. As a matter of fact, if there is a chapter of the KKK in this area I'm not aware of it. I know that there isn't one in Long county. Besides, Cecil Nobles was too good of a politican to have done such a thing and was loved by the black people of the county. You must watch too many movies with southern stereotypes. Maybe things were like that many years ago, but it isn't like that now. Welcome to the real world.

I hope that you are still looking in this forum. I live in Edinburgh, Indiana and my story is very similiar to Billy's except, my family's abuser was my father. I am currently writing a memoir about our story and saw Billy's story on TV. I was flabbergasted to see the injustice that happened to Billy. I was also shocked at the similarities in our two stories.

When I was young, my older siblings had talked about killing my father many times and I remember always worrying about them going to prison. I am so sorry that 14 years of Billy's life have been ruined because of something,'he had to do!". I never agree with murder, but I do understand how the continued abuse can build up on someone until they explode. I have been in his situation. To those out in this forum that know NOTHING about living in a situation like this, there aren't always police records, hospital records or anything else because everyone is too scared to call the cops or go to the hospital. My mother was beaten terribly but never went to the hospital.

Billy and Tonia - God Bless you in your new life. I do have one request, if you are interested in having me tell your story, or you just want to talk about the similarities in our stories, please contact me at [email protected] I am a published author and as I said, I am working on writing my own story right now. I have already published two others books.

I wish you the best of luck and am very hopeful you can put all this behind you and live the rest of your life in peace. My eight siblings and my life started when my father passed away from ALS in 1985.

Thanks, everyone for the support and caring comments you have left on here. Just for the record Billy is doing great ,and being very spoiled ;)He is adjusting really well, and enjoying taking everything in. I'm amazed at how well he is doing after being locked up for almost 15 yrs..Don't get me wrong it's not a walk in the park for him,but he is doing well!!! Actually my heart aches for him having to start all over again I could never imagine.I hear so many times throughout our day telling me how thankful he is to have me ,and my family. It's not that he is trying to convince me ,or make me feel good it's just his way of thinking and being grateful for what he never had.
It's a life changing adventure for us both we're learning together.I wont be back on here , he ask me to just let all this go, and he wants to put it behind him, but before I did I at least wanted to tell the ones who had his best interest at heart that he is home ,and doing well. Thanks again for all the concern and prayers....Just for the record since Billy and I watched his A&E episode (which was very heart breaking to see his "MOTHER" on there he clarified there was no KKK for the record it was only mentioned pertaining to comparison to a situation...
Oh, and the lady who mentioned the vac/honeymoon that sounds great:) After all this it's well needed and we will soon, so many prayers have been answered....Thanks again,
The lady in Chicago, he wants to see all the large amount of snow b/c he never has ,so we may take you up on that if just in passing to say hello. I have relatives in Michigan so after a while we plan to go visit..

I just read that Billy and his family got the best Christmas present ever! He was released 11/27/12!!! Congratulations Billy! I only know your story from TV and reading online. But please know that you and your sister have been in my prayers! God bless you for defending your family. It breaks my heart to know that you all endured so much and then you had to spend 15 years in prison and be punished more! Talk about injustice! But I pray that you can get on with life and be blessed with ALL LIFE HAS TO OFFER! HAVE A GOOD LIFE...YOU EARNED IT. And if you ever want to come to Chicago to visit, you have a place to stay!

Wow, great news. I have been following this case from the start and now Billy is finally free. He should have never been incarcerated, IMHO.
BT Crowder (Tonia), I can only imagine the emotions y'all are experiencing now. I pray the good fortunes continue to bless.

I read where Billy was granted parole in November 2012, and good for him! He has served his time for his crime, although I feel it was very harsh. I do not know Billy, but I do know his sister. I have worked in that town several years. I have seen how they 'cover up' what they want It is all who you know. I wish Billy the best with his life, his dreams, and his family. He has overcome many obstacles, and has been through many hardships. I truly believe he will use what all he has learned, to better hisself and his family. Good luck Billy!!!

Billy needs to be free.i feel what he did was justified. Everybody deserves a second chance i know the judge done wrong befofe he was a judge so how can he give him life for protecting his family. He needs to think about life before protecting amimal cause that what he was.

I saw this case on 48 hours/Dateline, not sure which one. But, I couldn't believe how all this went down. He has more than paid for his debt and is due for his time to be released! Is anybody doing anything for him, that has any influence? I feel so bad for him. He has been behind bars way too long! My heart goes out to him and I will be sure to pray for him. Is there anything new on the case? I would love to know how things are going, and how Billy is doing. Thank you!

I TOTALLY agreed with you GiGi. To add there is more than physical abuse. Verbal and Mental abuse I believe can be worst. But overall abuse is abuse and ppl that have the will to live will go to the extreme to survive, just like almost any animal would.

You have to be crazy!! Or the judge, or sheriff that helped put him away!! He should have never been convicted in the first place! I Pray to God that he is released very soon, he has been on my mind for years now and if I could have three wishes.. One would be for him to get out and sue the hell out of the police department, the second would be for Betty Broderick to be released.. I Love these two people and I feel their pain!! God Bless You Billy, I am on your side, God will punish all the liars, etc.

Well anyone that thinks that Billy should have been sentenced to life for armed robbery have definately without a doubt bumped your heads somewhere. If you were in his shoes I'm just curious as to how you would have reacted. The Sheriff lied when he stated that he didn't even know Thurman. Well do you make it a habbit going to stranger's funerals and acting as a paul bearer?? I don't think so.. So what makes you think that he wouldn't lie about knowing about the abuse?? I was abused for 6 yrs by my first husband and I tried and tried to make reports to no avail.. it's all in who you know.. I truly hope with all my heart that Billy is out of jail and living a happy FREE life FINALLY!!!!!!!!

I just watched this story on ID. I had to search and see what happened, hoping Billy was released by now. Before I was in an abusive relationship, I used to be one of those people who said, "just leave" or "why didn't they just leave?" Abusers do not make it that easy. It's all about control. I tried to "just leave" and was stalked for a year and a half before finally being attacked and sent to the hospital. I am fortunate to be here. The police, they aren't much help. They don't want to hear about it or deal with it, esp in the south where the "good ole boys" reign. Essentially, the police said they couldn't do a single thing until AFTER he did something to me...which was not true. These police officers and attorneys, they are NOT trained in dealing with situations such as from a victim's standpoint. It was only after I was attacked and begged (literally) one of the detectives to help me get this man in court and convince him I was willing to do whatever it takes, did he offer me the proper help. That's the way it is! Now, I offer my help and advise and knowledge to others. I refuse to be a victim, I'm a survivor. Billy's a survivor, so is his mom and sister. No one should have to endure abuse such as that. The way the police acted, how they got screwed by the court...well, if they had even tried to "just leave", I can tell you now that there would've been no justice or protection for them. That's how it is. Welcome to the truth.

My brother and I were abused and became apart of the system through no fault of our own. I support you Billy and your sister and I wish we had the strength to do the same thing to our abuser. If you ever need anything, you guys have a home here in Vegas. I hope someone plans on investigating the judge and the sherrif- they need to be investigated!!!!!
