These fraternities and sororities need to be made illegal or un-allowed on campuses. It's really ridiculous the kinds of things they do...basically stupid! These kids don't have completely developed brain, apparently, yet!!

Vicky, it appears that you were not part of the greek community. To say that the greek system should be made illegal is really ridiculous. Where do you think all of the alumni donations to the University of Arkansas come from? Over 75% of all donations to the University are made by Greeks. The bottom line is that many Greeks do great things while on campus and once they get into the working world. There are events like this one that come up from time to time and are unfortunate, as it shines a negative light on the greek community. The University of Arkansas knows which fraternities haze their pledges. They let it continue to happen because they want the money from the Greek alumni, and when an instance like this occurs they work fast to sweep it under the rug. Most chapters that get kicked off campus are required to be gone for at least 4 years. Since Phi Delt has been on campus for such a long time, and they have a great alumni base, the University felt it was best to only have them off campus for a matter of months. The fact that they also helped sink a large sum of money into helping the Phi Delts remodel their house also probably plays a part in this. Being a Greek Alum from the UofA, I have seen this time and time again. The University has sold their soul to the Money Machine, and they really deserve what they get. With that being said this kid was stupid and should have stopped drinking, but as anyone that has ever partied at a frat house knows, things can get crazy really fast, especially when you are trying to impress older members. I think that Greek Life at the UofA is very important, but the University needs to take a stance when situations like this arise the first time, and not roll over and take it from alumni. After all a 4 year stint off campus isn't really that bad is it? If there was a pledge that was sent to the hospital with a .68 from my house, I would be disappointed. The fraternities need to remember what it means to be Greek, and to look at our creed and values, and not the clowns in the movie Animal House.

Cheers,

Old School Greek Alum

I think that if the guy was over 21 and drank that much it's nobodies fault but the guy who drank.I get soooo tired of people FN up and blaming other people for their actions.

I am in a fraternity, Kappa Sig of course.. When I get out of college, hopefully finishing my communications degree, I am planning on running for congress and eventually president of the USA. I am told that through my Kappa Sig alumni and brothers pull, anything is possible. I am glad I decided to join this great group of guys. If this falls through, I believe I will join the military, It sounds like I can finally get in.. Don't ask don't tell ... Wish me luck Kappa Sig forever (heart)..
