As if one murderous nut is not enough for a small town in New England. Here in the Mid-South,Fort Smith leaders intend for our city to attract increasing numbers of crazy, indigent, marginal, criminal, freeloading, chemical dependent pilgrims to the free lunch Mecca of Fort Smith. I hope the children walking to and from school and using the parks and playgrounds are safer because of the increased transient population "watching-out" for the little ones as they pass through and pass by.......Gimme a freakin' break. Stop exploiting the downtrodden as an excuse for pork barrel construction and bureaucracy jobs paid for by taxpayers and donations to profitable "non-profits" while jeopardizing our children's safety. The bleeding hearts are playing with fire, a fire not in their neighborhood. Let those same hearts invite the mentally ill to live in their backyard or above the garage or in that spare room since the kid went away to college. Better yet, give all the transients a one way bus ticket to Texas where there are jobs and prosperity.Enough already!

As you drive by the block on N 6th Street where the Salvation Army and Day Room are located BE CAREFUL!
Groups of people congregate on the wall of the parking lot and on the adjacent sidewalk as well as crowding the sidewalk in front of the Day Room. Too many of the people appear unstable or fatigued rendering them likely to carelessly fall off the curb or wander into traffic. BE CAREFUL that you don't run into or over them with your vehicle when traversing the area. Which brings a question to mind, "Why the hell should we have to watch out for these walking human hazards"? Don't the charities bear at least a moral responsibility if not a legal one to discourage this scenario by enforcement of rules. After all there are picnic benches behind the Salvation Army. This human blight devalues the neighborhood. The charities don't suffer that cost, they pass it onto neighboring property owners much as other landlords do. This must stop. The free ride should be over. Responsiblity and accountability are long overdue.

So Dexter, would you like more Dextrose to sugarcoat the facts? Or would you rather drown in your own sweet ignorant bliss?

Right on ! Abener had to get as far away from the Bahamas as he could afford to.

No free lunch day rooms over there....There's an idea. Let's send all the unfortunates to the islands. Welfare payments and entitlements should go further over there...Heck, why don't we all leave. Then the city government can tax itself with the rest of us gone.

I'm not unaware of the problem but when Traffic Cop referred to the homeless and mentally disturbed as "human blight", I lost any sympathy I might have for his woes. That is how Hitler felt about the Jews. Only a person with the blackest of hearts would say something like that.

Don't get carried away with your simple polarized false analogy.

Call it what it is. It is blight, not trash or waste. Blight can be reversed. Even trash can be recycled. It is a vicious circle, urban blight-poverty-crime-hopelessn ess-blight. Stop the cycle. Give people hope and opportunity. If not in Fort Smith, then help them get to where conditions are better.....like out of town! What's so callous about that notion? Have you never relocated for a better life and more opportunity? It's a free country, you can even walk to fifty different states for a better life is all else fails.

Yes, it definitely is a free country and you are free to go too. Let me make a guess, you live somewhere near 6th street and this is your personal vendetta because you're dreams are being spoiled by having to see the less fortunate daily. You sad, sad man.

So Dexter, are the less fortunate living in your neighborhood? I just pass through N 6th on my way to work at Sparks. Historic District residents were upset a couple of years ago, so much so that the Police Chief hosted public mass meetings about the situation in that area. Your ignorance is showing again, you mental cupcake. The less fortunate are not being helped when they simple wander from one homeless shelter to another or one free lunch to another. They are heads counted for statistics to apply for grants by the corporate rackets, excuse me, charities.

Another quote from Traffic Cop: "Why the hell should we have to watch out for these walking human hazards?"

Your own words speak for themselves. You are a hater. A vile, vile person. There is no defense for what you said.

You offended yourself with your misinterpretation and prejudicial perspective that everything not in agreement with you is hateful. Not so. You simply cannot comprehend what you read. The walking humans are indeed hazardous to passing traffic and to themselves. If they congregated in a more appropriate place then no hazard would exist in the scenario described.

The day room and missions are effectively an attractive nuisance, so extra care and considerate precaution should be forthcoming. But no, the charities don't even consider the impact outside their own doors upon stable residents of the neighborhood.

Like it was said before. The best thing we can contribute to the welfare of the down and out is to help them leave town for more promising environs. Fort Smith has little to offer for someone to pull themselves up from their own bootstraps. It isn't them so much as it is where they are "stuck". Stuck in Fort Smith.

patrick pulled himself up by his bootstraps by hanging with settle who has gosack by the jewels and then sold very expensive garbage and sludge trucks to the captured slave that has no choice but to buy those trucks to keep his job! now you see how those taxpayer boot straps work because when your job is on the line its very easy to cave in and let someone elses tax money flow into greedy hands! thats just the way that I see it with those old "boot straps" it doesn't hurt to beat up a pet lady once in a while or attack a grandma too!
