Well today is my last day in reception. It has been extremely chill. Had some fun I guess. Outside of standing and sitting in the hot all day and standing in long ass chow lines. Can't wait to go across the tracks tomorrow. They say it should be somewhat easy. The bct soldiers told me yesterday honestly week one is the worse. But they say they have some funny ds and that basic is fun. So just push guys and do what you are told and it should be a breeze.

My son called us on the 4th. He also called us last night to tell us that he would be phone less for 3 weeks. He was nerevous to leave reception but happy to take the next step. He also said it is hot as hell in Fort Silla. we don't get very many 100 degree days in Latrobe, PA.

I'm wondering the same thing. My Recruiter told me tho that this year the holiday break may be 3 weeks, which stinks because remember if you leave it come out of your vacation time.

My son left June 28 and left reception last Wednesday. He was able to make 2 quick calls. He sounded homesick on the 4th. He made us laugh whenever he said their "treat" was brownies... He missed our picnic parade and cookout.

Hope his platoon has a Facebook page!

I'd say bring your phone. My husband is at Ft Benning right now and was told not to bring his, but he's gotten to use it several times. Beats waiting in line for a pay phone. And if you go to the Ft Sill website there is a checklist of what to bring.

Yes, you should take your cell phone. My wife is at Ft. Sill now, she just left reception on July 13 going to BCT. I talked to my wife everyday while she was in reception at least two or three times a day.

My son just graduated from basic training there at Ft. Sill, and let me tell you, it was not very pleasant at all. He was around 25 pounds lighter, and all of the recruits looked like prisoners of war, they looked all dehydrated, and sickly. They were all too thin, and the drill sgts. seemed to enjoy torturing the poor guys. They even have a facebook page and the 1st sgt. always made fun of the guys and talked about how good it was to watch them hurt.

YES!! bring your phone, you can use it the few days your in reception..only while in ur bay. Then when you move to the basic part you'll get to call home for a minute...you'll be phoneless for about 2 weeks then you'll be able to call home on Sunday....they will give you like a CC to make ur purchases with when you get there with 350 dollars on it....atleast that's what they just did for my daughter.....you will her a list of things you'll need to bring. Good luck to you (:

Look up Ft. Sill on google, then go to his battalion and you can find the facebook link. They even post pictures of them. And yes, they do look good when they start basic there, it is when they finish that they look so bad, or so did the soldiers that graduated last Friday.
