We need help with our mother-in-law. Our family doesn't have a lot of money, so we need to know which nursing home will give us the best care for our money. Which is the best nursing home in Fort Scott? Has anyone tried to care for their disabled relative at home? Can you help us with your best advise? I realize that I will get a lot of "flack" from this forum, but I am hoping to get some helpful feedback from anyone who knows something about the elderly care options in Fort Scott or nearby.

I take care of my grandparents in their home. I like the home environment better than nursing facilities because the patients are more comfortable in the environment they are used to. There are agencies in ft Scott that will help you if you would like to keep your family member In their home. They assist in looking at the situation and your financial situation and help you decide your options. I think that all the nursing homes have positives and negative aspects of them. If I had to put a family member in one though I would choose medicalodge or guest home estates. Hope this helps!

My grandfather really liked the place in Prescott. No place is perfect but I have heard many good things about that place and our experience was great.

individual care is a must at medicalodge its so big and getting bigger . activities, but individual care of each one is important. not every patient is up to this every day activity. it depends on patients needs and needs rest through out the day especially with a chronic ailment that requires rest periods. checkout transfers daily to get that rest. make sure that u tell them what you want and expect.

Prescott Nursing Home really is your best option... The other places in Fort Scott may have some good points, but they are just cosmetic... And it is true that all places have some negatives, but weigh carefully... The end point is the care that your loved one will receive, and having had experience with all the area nursing homes, I can tell you that your loved one will receive TRUE care at Prescott. At home care is also a good option, the SEK area on aging is a good place to start to help you decide if that is a fit for your situation.

Hillside assisted living is an amazing little place in fort Scott also! It is ran and operated by Debbie Morter. It is a very home like atmosphere which has recently went to home health plus and is accepting new residents. Check it out at hillside guesthome.com !

I have had personal experience both at Medicalodges and Moran Manor and DO NOT put your loved one in either place. Especially Moran Manor. THey are out to make money...PERIOD!! Prescott is your best option in the Fort Scott area...HANDS DOWN (and I use to market to all of these homes and the atmosphere and personal care was far superior in Prescott!)

I like Fort Scott Manor. Most of the staff there really care about the residents and there is a new Director of Nursing who is doing a great job.
