Is there a ban on Pitbulls in Bourbon county? If so if you have one can they just come and take it off your property?

Yes, there is SUPPOSED to be a ban on Pit Bulls in Bourbon County and Fort Scott. However, they do not push the enforcement issue as far as they should (or could).

Pits aren't any worse than any other dog. It depends on how they're treated and trained. They try so hard to please their owner that they will follow whatever is commanded. Aggressive pits are the direct result of despicable humans who made them that way.

Male pits have a natural tendency to be aggressive toward other male dogs, but most of that can be alleviated by having the dog neutered. Otherwise, they are good and obedient dogs to humans.

Many, many pits were war heroes in times past before people slandered these fine dogs, and even Helen Keller owned one. Sure, she had no hearing or vision, but she never drew back a bloody stub!

My little pit is a sweetheart, and we fought tooth and nail to keep him with the help of our vet.

In conclusion, it's not the breed or even the dog - it's the owner. These dogs have suffered enough due to ignorance.

That ordinance needs to be changed. I've seen meaner Chihuahuas and Dachsunds.

That's right. They never got a bad reputation until people started using them for fighting. They weren't even called "pit bulls" until then. The reason they are willing to fight to the death is to please their masters. It's sad, really.

Before that, they were just regular dogs. Anybody can look up information about pits on the Internet. There is a lot of valid info out there.

And speaking of, several of Michael Vick's dogs are now in loving homes. At least in his case, the right party was punished (meaning HIM).

While that is a horrible tragedy, it might not have happened if the dog had been neutered. You will notice the female dog did not participate, and since she was also a pit, leads us to question the agressiveness of the unneutered male.

Unfortunately, because there is such a stigma surrounding pits, they get far more press than any other breed who attacks. I'm old enough to remember when German Shepherds got the bad publicity.

And for the record, I would have a very hard time trusting an unneutered pit myself (or an unneutered Rottweiler, Boxer, German Shepherd, Chow, Doberman Pinscher, or Malamute). ANY unneutered dog is far more agressive than one that is neutered.

I agree that if you raise them right, in a loving environment, they turn out to be nice dogs. Unfortunately, there are so many druggies in Fort Scott, that this isn't the case, and they ruin it for everyone else. They are more aggressive naturally...and since many pit owners don't do it right, they ruin it for everyone else. I think it is a good ordinance. A needed one.

I totally agree with you. The dogs suffer because of ignorant people. The dogs are taught to be aggressive , pits are such a wonderful loving breed.

That is what they say, but the fact is, when a Pit Bull is treated badly, it can become a killer, when a Chihuahua is treated badly, they might bite and are bitchy. other breeds do not have the bite PSI that others do, and the nasty temperment to go with it. Many cities outlaw the breed for a reason. Hey people, do not believe the "pit bulls are ok" crap. If you see one, report it, I do.

I would have no problem if someone shot a pit bull. They are dangerous nasty dogs. Also, it does not matter if you agree with me or not, the law does and they are illegal.

It is a misconception that Pit bulls have a stronger bite then any other dog. In fact Rottweilers have the strongest bite of any dog. And if you look to the past before Pit bulls were the "evil dogs" of our country, there were bans on Rottweilers, German Shepards, and Dobermans because they were thought to be the most vicious at the time. Yes these dogs were used to fight because they are incredibly smart and easy to train, however any dog can be trained to fight. It is absolute bullshit to me that dogs that have been proven to be vicious by biting someone are not taken away and put down but if your dog LOOKS like a Pit bull it is illegal. Punish the fucking deed not the breed.

As being someone who has volunteered in over one hundred animal shelters throughout the united states and worked with thousands of dogs from tiny tea cup pups to huge napoleon mastiffs I still find myself loving the pitbull breed I have a two year old male pitbull I would put money on any day or time that he would change the mind of pitbull haters all over the country I have spoken at board meeting and actually had him present to over turn BSL on cities throughout the united states. Whoever is speaking about shooting dogs just shows your lack of knowledge in general not only on a moral standpoint but on a educational one as dogs who have strong bites don't have them because they are a certain breed they have them simply because their jaws muscles are exercised more breed has nothing to do with it. Saying a breed is one thing is like making a racial slur about another race of human. It's a proven fact that more people die from cigarettes in one year than have ever died from pitbull attacks smh doesn't mean they are going to BAN then smh people who make these decisions majority of them have never even been around the breed they just sit behind the desks n follow the trend of banning them!

Amen to everything you just said, Volunteer! These dogs should not all be judged because of some stories you've heard. That's like saying airplanes are death traps based on the stories you've heard of crashes. You don't hear about planes that land safely, and you don't hear about the well-behaved pits. Take some time to talk to someone who owns one. My little pitty mix is the sweetest and best-behaved dog I have ever personally owned. When I got him (saved him from abuse, mange, and starvation), he was still loving and that's before he was neutered. Now that he's healthy, neutered, and taken care of, he's just like any other dog. He doesn't like everybody and he doesn't like other male dogs, but he's perfectly fine with kids, cats, etc. I had to bring my vet into the picture to save him from being taken right out of his kennel in my backyard. I say judge the dog AND THE OWNER, not the breed!

Is your name meant to be ironic?? Just wondering. By the way the law may not agree with you as much as you think. Killing a dog, for no reason other than you being so ignorant, is a felony. Just thought I'd let you know :)
