I saw in the minutes of the last City Commission meeting that the City employees, with the exception Dave Martin and Bob Farmer, are receiving a Christmas bonus of $100.00 each. I am wondering if most people here that work other places get a Christmas bonus also. They said that this amount of money was in the budget specifically for the Christmas bonuses but still, at a time when we are cutting back on city services, "We don't have the funds for that." and next year will face a tax increase from the City, I wonder if the City can really afford to do this. I think we would all like an extra $100.00 to spend at Christmas but most will have even less than last year, think property tax increase and sales tax increase and we didn't get the 1% raise that the city employees got either. IF, it is necessary to give a bonus, it would have been nice to see a certificate instead to a range of businesses in Fort Scott to at least circulate our tax dollars where we could see some benefit. I know this may not be popular but with the generous salaries/wages paid to some of the city employees with other scraping bottom, the system is just too screwed up to just let it be! Keep in mind that many families here live in poverty, many are the working poor and those families will not have $100.00 to spend on Christmas.

I heard the city is hiring... If you don't like it, go get a job with the city! City employees are under paid as it is. A $100 bonus is a drop in the bucket compared to what they should be making!

HTE you are some piece of work, you are a sad, sad, sad person. That bonus is nothing it is less than $10 a month, that is nothing for the work they do. Lets see, if we get snow and you cant leave your house to drive around and cause problems and bitch, who cleans the roads, its the city guys and if you cant get a drink to wet that dry mouth from too much bitching, who fixes it, you guessed it again the city guys. You are a terrible, hateful, spiteful, evil, nasty, and quite frankly very annoying human, wait scratch that last one, your lower than human. Nobody and I mean nobody is a bigger scrooge than you. I think as long as we have people like you here in Fort Scott, we have a zero percent chance of growth. The people at the City do a lot more than you know and do it for little money so scumbags like you can sit at home a run your mouth. Get a life, get off your dead ass and get a job you arrogant, ignorant, leach on society. You are a boil on the ass of Fort Scott and need removed so pack your shit and take the next train to wherever, just as long as its not here.

I agree that the $100 bonus for each city employee is a nice thing to do. Their salaries are low &if we can do something extra for them this time of year, then I'm all for it. The fact that Dave Martin excluded himself and Bob Farmer (who really shouldn't be considered a 'city employee anyway) show's he is trying to take care of his workers and is not simply looking out for himself. I think it was handled very well.

I'd also like to thank the city employees for all they do. Things we will never see or know about.

That bonus is about 45 dollars. HTE, that would get you a tv for two weeks at rent way.

The admin of the City are among the highest paid workers in the City of Fort Scott. Giving a "gift" of the taxes to anyone is inappropriate. They used to do a "merit" type thing at the end of the year which would be appropriate. I think when you make over $60,000 in a City where the average household income is about $30,000 (2 people working usually), that an additional gift of $100.00 at Christmas is out of line. The City of Pittsburg does not give Christmas bonuses and this is the first government entity that I have heard of giving gifts at Christmas for government employees. Then again, I saw where the City of Pittsburg is actually recruiting a new employer that will bring in jobs. That kind of venture cost $$$ to happen but we spend the tax dollars here on amenities we can't afford. Tax payer dollars should not be used as Christmas gifts. I wonder do they teach government here? Obviously not. Some of you constantly complain about the taxes and the lack of jobs yet you are so entirely clueless about how government and economics work. It doesn't take long to see why the City continues to slide down hill while the others around us, grow and clean up their towns. You get what you deserve so look around, you got this! "Merit", working above getting by is where you should see an increase not a "gift"! Get a clue!

City of Girard gives a Christmas bonus and has 38 employees. The City of Independence gives a $25.00 Downtown Bucks to be used at local retailers in the last paycheck of the year but then again, like Pittsburg, they do spend money on recruiting businesses. See people, you can nickel and dime the tax system "It's only a few thousand" to death and there is nothing left to grow with or clean up the town, fill the potholes, dig out the ditches, etc. You can't have it both ways. And, for goodness sakes, for once, can't you have a convincing argument versus a personal attack which only shows your level of maturity and/or educational level! I thought you all wanted to be like the cities that grow and prosper. Taxation without representation - the city/county needs a giant banner alluding to such.

We don't get them but I don't have a problem with people giving them out. As for tax dollars being used for it I see no problem with it as it is part of the City budget and it has been planned for. I for one think the City people do a great job for the little they get paid, and if you think they make a lot of money you should go there and ask them as I know several and they scrape by paycheck to paycheck like most everyone else in this town.

Personal attack, you have got to be kidding me, who are you to say that. You do nothing but sit on your lazy ass and attack everything that anyone does in this town. You need to drink a nice big glass of shut the hell up! Until you become a contributing member of society you should not have an opinion. It is hard for an person like yourself to wrap you little head around the fact that nobody but you cares about your opinion anyway and the simple fact is, you are nothing but a sad old fussbudget that has a computer. People like you have no value to our community and are the main reason that nobody wants to have anything to do with us. If all you misanthropes would just get the hell out of here the town would be a better place for all. To address your comment about education I happen to have an MBA from Kansas State so you can run that one up your flagpole. I happen to love this town and most of the people here and the sooner we get rid of all the ignominious people like you the better. Have a nice day, Hater!

I am curious as to what Cathy Pechin does for a living here in Fort Scott? Anyone have any idea? She started this thread but failed to state if her employer gave a Christmas bonus.

Your kidding, are you new to town or something? She does nothing but sit on her computer and cause problems with everyone in town. Now as for a bonus, how would that work? I guess some extra government cheese or an extra $30 in food stamps or something.

I agree 100%. Our tax dollars should not be given as a Christmas bonus. My checks are taxed to death. I do not receive any bonus for Christmas. Our family has to streatch our dollars paycheck to paycheck. Let alone try and purchase Christmas for our kids. Upsetting to know I'm helping pay for a Christmas bonus of someone who almost doubles my family's income. I guess at least their kids will have a extra few gifts or at least a little more for their bills..
You can always get a better job, or a second one. You could always start taking some classes to improve your situation and seek better employment. Once taxes are taken out that bonus would be nothing less than 60 bucks. Most of you people that cry and complain about the City would not be willing to do the crap work those street guys do in the winter anyway, if so apply for a job there. I work at one of the plants here in town and we don't get a bonus and my family has to budget very carefully to make ends meet but we do it and my wife is going to school right now as well, so I also have a second part time job until she finishes school next spring. I don't complain and rarely read this trashy site but this just struck a nerve with me as I know several City street workers and they do make much money either. All you people think you know so much but you don't, why don't you ask one of these guys when you see them how much they city pays and they will set you straight on that! I pay taxes just like every normal, working person in town and have no problem with them getting this. Seems to me its the same group of people on here all the time complaining and bitching about everything, I have to wonder how anyone could live with so much discontent in their lives. Ever notice how nobody that is actually involved with the community or supports it, is ever on here, that should tell you something right there. I don't think my tax dollars should go to support deadbeats that refuse to work, there are tons of those people in Fort Scott and a lot of them are on here bitching about the town, the City People, or the Taxes and most of you that are, don't contribute so I don't care what your opinion is. I would like to see a well supported post on here about living off the welfare system, and that are fully able to work, but would rather scam the system and live off our tax dollars. Funny how that would never happen on here as most would not care to bitch about themselves.

Last time I checked we lived in a democracy where people are allowed to voice their opinions and you have every right to disagree. I think cursing and degrading people because you do not agree with their views is not the way to do it. That's just my opinion.
I think everyone, especially HTE, is disturbed about all the problems with county taxes. Let me ask all who disagree with HTE about Christmas bonuses, how much would be too much or too little? Just curious. I'm glad they get the bonuses because I have friends there. lol I don't really have an opinion about whether it is right or wrong.

i think it is outrageous for town or state workers to get bonuses or raises. Why yo ask?? well the average state worker in massachusetts makes 59,000 dolars aon the low end, not including 20 thousand for health insurance and benefits. Town workers make around 25 to 30 dollars an houir plus benefits, most people in the private sector make half of that, dont get health care or no bonuses, how dare you accept a bonus when you guys are overpaid as it is
