I am a resident of Kings Park. My taxes are about 12K/yr I don't deserve a new development. I dont deserve a prison in my backyard.

If our politicians respect us, someone needs to make sure that this land is protected. Keep it clean, keep it open. Make more bike trails, make more kayak rental places. The community loves that stuff. Keep it up.

More housing will ruin the quality of life in Kings Park. Long Island is all ready too crowded. Leave Kings Park alone. I am afraid that if they clean it up, they will just build houses there.

John J. Flanagan Said that he will do what he can to help preserve the grounds. He was the one who go Pataki to turn the hospital into a park. I hope that it stays a park. We need all the open space we can get.

Could you imagine the traffic congestion if the hospital grounds were to be developed as housing? When the hospital was functioning with three shifts, there was a lot less housing in the area. Now, KP is virtually paved over. Try to drive Main Street during the rush hours. Good luck. Low income housing? You are killing me. Why should taxpayers pay for someone else to live on the most desirable property in the entire town of Smithtown? Nobody is helping pay my mortgage. Besides, low income housing brings crime. The schools would become crowded without an increase in the tax base. Apartment and low income housing dwellers do not pay their fair share of school taxes. If you want to turn KP into a slum, put in low income housing. Is that politically incorrect? Oh, no, they will probably send me to re-education camp to learn the "party line".
Wow. NIMBY, NIMBY NIMBY! Why does afford house equal crime? Are you expecting people on Welfare buying these homes and turning them into crack dens? A prostitute on every corner? If a family making $50,000 a year wants to buy a house on Long Island, they won't be able to. Are hard-working families who have been priced-out by an over-inflated real estate market criminals?

Affordable housing at the Pysche Center is a bad idea because Smithtown has no natural beauty to spare. We've watched too many open lots get chopped down and another big house get built.

He may be right because I think it used to be called "low income housing" but to be politically correct they now call it "affordable housing" And its nof for those making $50,000. Why not just leave it alone, whats wrong with un-developed land ? WHy do we have to have concrete and asphalt everywhere. Open more stores so they can go out of business.

I agree the land should be left AS IS and not developed. We have had enough.

I'm pretty sure that if Smithtown developed "affordable" housing, there would be strict residency requirements to apply for whatever housing lottery they held. How cheap would this house have to be that I can make LESS than $50,00 and still afford it? Its affordable, not free.

And, yes, "low Income" was replaced with "Affordable." I just can't stand scared white people afraid that anyone who isn't white is a rapist, criminal or drug dealer. And we wonder why the world hates us. We're a country of old women on a bus clutching our purse so no bad people can take it.

Let's all calm down and agree to leave the place as is for now. God knows the way Long Island is going it will need a few more jails and mental insitutions in the future.

I would like "the government" to subsidize me so I can build a house on the ocean in the Hamptons. Any takers? Then why should I subsidize someone so they can live where they cannot afford to live?

Its not scared white people its concerned people of all races. Look around you and tell me these old ladies should hold on to their purse or be afraid. We are being overrun by garbage and because we are all afraid of not being politically correct we turn the other cheek. Look at the crap that recently made the news, the so called Latin Leaders were blackmailing Suffolk County because Levy wouldnt condone hiring halls for illegal workers (notice I didnt say undocumented). I say screw all of you, I dont want low income housing as my neighbor. I pay high taxes and dont want to live near a slum. Thats what it would become in no time at all. Maybe instead of Kings Park we could change the name to Little Havanna or something.
Screw all of you

This land has a beautiful overlook of the Long Island Sound and Nissequoge River as well as abundant open spaces and woods. A five minute walk and you're on a beach. This is why the original developers wanted the property to build a golf course and luxury homes on the land until the town started suing.

Are you familar with the new eminant domain laws? If the government wants, they can take your propety and sell it to a developer to make more money off the land. Of course this is done when town leaders are in the pocket of developers, something that has never happened on LI (sarcasm!)

Notes: Bob, what does eminent domain have to do with my taxes subsidizing someone else to live next door to me? Maybe you libs in NY should pass some laws to prevent what once were illegal takings.

This is a federal issue you inbred, head-in-the-sand, GW Bush Loving Texan. Learn to read, then crack open a newspaper, and not just for the bra ads. Liberals rock! They make love, not war, they don't cut taxes and spend, they end Presidential terms with record surpluses. Conservatives screwed up this country in only 7 years and then handed everything over to the Chinese and terrorists.

All of Suffolk county is a Psychiatric Center, all you have to do is go there and meet the people to see that. Most of them have shaved heads and tattoos across their neck, mess up faces, nasty and unhappy people. If you think that sounds bad, you should see some of the men!. I had to live there for 3 years and could not believe the way people talked to each other, and the unprovoked derelict acts they committed on each other. I thought I was in the Twillight Zone , but then it was explained to me that there was a large number of Psychiatric Centers that closed and let their pensions out into the public. Pilgrim Stat Psychiatric Center {huge} south Oaks Psychiatric Center, Kings Park Psychiatric Center and hundreds of small ones all over Suffolk County.

<quoted text>I bet your right. A deal was probably made. Let the taxpayer clean up the mess, than a developer can build and make mega bucks while saving on the cleanup costs.. I wonder why the politicians are backing such an expensive plan????Maybe a perk??? I have walked those grounds, and It would make a perfect campus, low cost housing, prison psycho- institution again, and an illegal holding cell is a real good idea....
That property is on the North Shore--you may get away with some of those ideas in a place like Centereach but not up there--The people wont have it.

Hey, Bob, are you liking the hope and change yet? Hey, douche, I lived in Kings Park longer than you have been alive. If you had more than shit for brains, only then would it be interesting conversing with you.

I moved to kings Park after careful consideration. Because of the wonderful parks, trails, waterways, rolling hills and breathtaking views. I often walk around the grounds of the old asylum. I want the land preserved as a state park. I don't want a prison or housing to go up. These buildings can be taken down without worrying about asbestos. Removal of the buildings can be a controlled demolition project and if it has to take longer to do, so be it. I wish we can find a way to keep the main building up and the kids out. Its truly an awesome structure.

Suffolk County is a large area Goggle it. Kings Park is located on the North Shore. To group everyone that lives in it as white trash or psycho just shows how many people are illiterate. If you are offended by how people speak to each other don't listen to their privet conversations. If you think tattoos are offensive don't look. If you want prissy move to the bible belt. People in Kings Park take pride in their homes and enjoy the outdoors. I for one find the residents nicer to be around. I will not move back to Manhattan or to the elite stuck up town in Nassau that I lived in. I am finally where I can be free to be me and I absolutely love it. I kissed the pretentious good-by. I walk around with my camera takes pictures of the birds and say hello to my neighbors. And on occasions attend the functions the town and its schools offer. I have to go, I'm going for a pleasant trip in my kayak tomorrow. Are you jealous yet? You should be!
