i have tried so hard through out the past few months not to come on here and read these comments that are being posted about the two friends i just lost, and i tell myself i wont go as low as to post anything back but i cant help it.... i truly hope that these comments are comming from middle school age childern that just dont know any better. Yes my friends liked to party, and yes they have drinks in hand in the pictures, because they are pictures from PARTIES you fools... parties- where people go to drink and have fun. Are there any pictures of them drinking in there cars??? nope dont think so. Your all rude and heartless, Rob wasnt drinking, he was driving. and they were not doing 80mph down the road either, and unless youve been to the dock you wouldnt know that if you dont know the area, your lost, its night time, and its raining... it is very possible to drive in the water, and if your doing 45 and you hit the water and your car flips... you loose your life... like they did... this was a road that litterally ended in the water... the road just keeps on going untill it slopes down into the water so people can back there boats up into it. your all just wrong, so so very wrong.

I truly hope the families of those two young men are successful in their legal fight. It's just a shame that it won't bring them back.
They are 100% correct that, unless you know the area, it would be a very easy thing to do, especially on a stormy night, which was the case that early Saturday morning, and not being from the area.
Funny enough, a few days after the horrific accident (I witnessed the recovery efforts from my home) the quick thinking Smithtown board pulls a slick move and posts dead end signs (on the ramp itself no less, a little late if you are heading there at that point) and a yellow flashing light which so many people say, "oh great, now they will think some light ahead is turning red and race even faster to beat the light" a few days post the accident. Shame on you Smithtown Town Board, and with all my heart, I hope these families win their battle.
Thank you, although i understand how easy it would be to pass judgement on an article like this... "oh, they must have been stupid or drunk"... these people are sooo wrong, both of my friends were smart, had great jobs, and were NOT drinking and driving... i feel sorry for these heartless people and i would like to take them for a nice trip to the cemetaries that i have to go to to visit my friends, so they can feel the pain of reading the names to mark their burrial spot!

also, the youtube video is mostly pictures of the passenger, not the driver. this was just an unfortunate wrong turn that had the worst possible outcome. the first time i went to old dock road, i was astonished to see that the road literally goes right into the water. there was one dead end sign. that's it. dead end will typically mean that the road is ending, not that the road is going to turn into water in 30 feet.

You're all a bunch of self-righteous ignorant dolts. It must be so difficult for you all to steer your ships of right in your sea of perfection. This accident could've easily been prevented with a few simple signs and/or barriers put up by the town - only costs a few $ and saves the town and taxpayers in the long run. I sincerely hope, none of you ever have any accidents or do anything wrong or god-forbid have anything happen to a loved one -- your lack of thought, compassion and effort to know the simple facts before you run your mouth will hopefully, not come back to haunt you.

Don't blame the town for driver error, that car was operating at a high rate of speed and at a time of night when alcohol may have added to his bad judgement. I feel for the family but not every tragedy is a payday. Move on.
does anyone know the full title of this story?? I'm doing some research but I cannot find it on Newsday. Thanks!

The fact is that the town knew the road was dangerous at night. The rumor is that the town had plans drawn up years before for a security house and curbing (what the have now) but Supervisor Vecchio did not want to spend the money. I heard the kids were actually sober at the time of the accident. Vecchio has blood on his hands. What does he care anyway?

The road did nothing at all. The idiot drove off of it.

Old Dock Road goes back to colonial times. For the first time in 250 years, someone drives into the water and dies. How many thousands of people drove down there before and since and have managed to stay out of the Nissequogue? I hear the New York Legal Lottery cranking up...beware Smithtown taxpayers.
