Granted, the businesses in Leesville need the soldiers, but the Vernon Parish government seems not to care about the military unless it's to exploit it for financial gain.

It is tough to plan for an uncertainty and that's what the Leesville/Vernon Parish government has been charged to do for over 50 years.

After the most recent Base Re-alignment Closure (BRAC), the JRTC & Ft. Polk was slatted to expand. The Army requested Leesville to support this expansion with plans to expand the Leesville/Vernon Parish infrastructure that could support over 75K troop proposed to be stationed at Ft. Polk by 2014. Members of the Leesville community were resistant to changing the face of Leesville and Vernon Parish. Therefore, the needed expansion to support our Soldiers have been delayed.

Should Ft. Polk move? No. Even with the crappy political frictions and personal agendas, JRTC is a premier training location. The geographical location offers realistic training to all branches of the military all year round. It offers rainy climates, freezing climates, tropical climates, drought/dusty climates, and is strategically located to incorporate all branches of the military into one massive training exercise.

Vernon Parish needs better local government officials and representatives who are willing to serve the community and the nation. These political positions are unique from other local governments in that they are faced with national defense support responsibilities. Wake up Vernon Parish. Local elections are important to our nation. Get the crooks out of office so Leesville and Vernon Parish can be all it can be - Army Strong and progressive.
