I have heard over the past few weeks about how bad the fort plain police are, I do not agree at all. People say how the chief this and the chief that, but when it all comes down to it the man would give the shirt off his back. Put yourself in his shoes dealing with the scum of fort plain. I do respect the chief, he one of the few police officers that live in the village that he works in , and I know many officers....think about that for a while, never really leaving your job. That tells you what kind of person he is. Yes i am sure that he has his faults, but don't we all. When it comes to the BIG RAID of drugs in fort plain all i hear is the police this the police that... YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW DUMBASS do you expect for them to sugarcoat a raid,... um no. That is all I really have to say about the police force. It is always easy for people to point fingers, but do the job before you criticize others.Just remember when something bad is happening to you, they will be the first people you will call, I bet on it.........

I beieve the time has come for our three small towns to disban our local police and turn it over to the sheriffs dept. I have been told it would save thousands of dollars. After all I would rather know someone like our own home town boy Jeff Smith was looking over us.

I do understand were you are coming from, but think of this. A man breaks into your home and you call 911, you live in fort plain and the closest sheriff is in johnstown, would you want to wait for the sheriff for 30 min or have a fort plain cop 3 min away.. I know what my answer would be. Yes it would be a tax break, and yes I like jeff smith, and the sheriff dept, but what kind of price can you put on you and your family's life... just think

You're 100% right. This was tried in the village years ago and didn't work out too well.

............ I'm sure that all of the local law inforcement officers are doing their very best while working under the local community conditions that they have to. ... It is always easy to critize someone else's efforts while you do not have to fullfill their shoes.

In response to all of you, clearly you are all people that have never been harassed, treated unfairly, and subjected to their ignorant and arogant behavior. And as for Jeff Smith, quite frankly that man is an idiot.

.......... I've been traveling to and visiting the village and people of olde Fort Plain since 1946.... I have never been harrassed or bothered in any way by the village police officers in all of those many years.... I wonder why.... Is it because I always dress and act civilized.... I think that certain types of people attrack the police departments attention more than others.... Perhaps those type of folks should chance their ways.

It is always expected that those with issues speak ill of their enforcers. I too have been around the Village for a while, and have nothing but praise for the department.

Before you criticize Bob and his team, take a look at what they get for what they do. Check the salaries and the benefits. How many officers are part time with no benefits, and lower than average salaries. See how many nights they are at Village meetings ect. and not paid extra. How many boards and programs they partisipate in.

And finally if you are better qualified and can pass the requirements. Feel free to contact the Village leaders. They just might be interested in hearing from you.

.......... Perceived police harrassment has more to do with attitude then anything else.... The local village police are not there to bother anyone, but to, serve and protect.... If one thinks that they are being persecuted, then they need to adjust and fine tune their mental processes.

It's A no win situation.Bob is A great cop but with the pay scale all he can get is officers that are dumber than A bag of sand.Put two of those simpletons in a car driving around hopped up on MSG from free chinese food together and they just can't help but get themselves in trouble.

And you can say this because you are an experience person I'm sure? Just like in all walks of life. Every job. There's going to be the good, the bad and the ugly. Like your ring tone.

Seems pretty obvious, being that I am an experience person, that you are getting your information from Jill. I know ItÂ’s Little Orphan Anna who is doing the typing. Being that you have not left the couch in years, you would not know my ring tone. You are a joke. Just like the comic strip. Still looking for Daddy War-bucks? Maybe the sun will come out tomorrow!!!!

Never said i was experienced in anything, just an observer.Never said that some people didn't deserve the harrassment they recieved, just saying i have seen it.I know the pay is partially the reason behind, lack of experience, and ambition in some of the newbies.Every town has a bad apple in the barrel,i know this from "experience".I for one respect the police, sherriffs, troopers, who ever they may be,I am also not out getting myself into trouble, thank you.
