My husband and I took our 2 children to the fair thursday evening. The firemen do a good job every year. The food we got was good. Prices are a little high, but for fair food, reasonably priced. We walked around the park and were disappointed. There were barely any rides and deffinetly room enough for a couple more. The rides that were there looked so dirty I was nervous to let the kids go on them. The bounce house was filthy like it had never been washed, not to mention the woman running it being rude to the children and yelling at them. I can understand if they were jumping by the door or being mean to other kids but when the time was up she said everyone sit down. One little girl did not hear her and the lady screamed at her. That little girl looked like she was going to cry. If i was that childs parent i would have thrown a fit! The games the wheelocks bring in are a rip off. They wanted $3 for my 2yr old to pick a duck. Kept walking and the firemen had ducks for $0.50 a play. Kudos to them. Cheaper toys that werent spongebob but our little guy was happy with it. I think the firemen should find a different company to bring in rides and game booths. I mean, come on....$6 for a bag of cotton candy?!

Did you know the firemen keep a clam in a tin box, and that tin box is kept in a safe way in the back of the fire station, and once a year under armed guard they bring that clam out,hes on a long string, now they take a huge pot,fIll it with water,Onions, carrots
and slowly dip that clam three times in that pot, they put that clam back in that box and back in the safe for the next year, that clam is 62 years old,his name is clam chowder

Was a former STJ Fireman for more than 20 years and worked at the fair every year. Worked hard. I no longer live in St J, but if I did I would still be there giving it my all. Lydia Carter, Ann Thomas,Pearl Carter, Josie LacCoppola to naame a few, worked countless hours at the food both to prepare the chowderand always did a excellent job. Whoever you are, why not donate your time and help out these great people who give up a lot of their free time to provide a weeks of enjoyment for you local people. Believe me I gave up a lot for my family.

and how could you forget Buzz Davis who oversaw the making of the chowder for years and Roland Swartz who did all the planning for the food booth and saw that things went right. And too many volunteers over the years to mention. Wives of firemen and many local men who did the cooking, too many to mention. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated.

Cindy, the Fire Dept. always welcomes new members. You just have to go through the training program. Then you could be heard at the meetings. You have so many options, the Fonda Fair - 10 bucks to get on the property or pop up to the State Fair. How many bucks I don't know, likewise the Herkimer fair. The firemen have always tried to make the fair available for those who don't have tons of money, and, believe it or not, many kids had a great time at the fair. I did not hear of any crimes being committed during fair week. These firemen who work all day and then at night at the fair don't need to listen to your stupid advice.

This site promotes important discussions from the most least desirable people about some of the most pressing Village matters. Instead of focusing my energies on meeting my constituents at Stewarts for important matters, I come here to communicate with them. Cindy, your concerns here are great and I think they represent the kind of helpful discourse the entire community is worried about.
I am very sorry to read above that you were unfortunately let go by the ride company. We will try to help increase your benefits while you are looking for employment. Sadly for you the carnival season is ending but maybe a local surgeon or attorney would be interested in a partnership with you and your skills.
The Fire Company has a committee for carnival purposes. I'm sure they would be honored to have you attend and straighten out the carnival to your liking. After 62 years of trying, it would be a relief to have you correct it. If you are working and unable to attend a meeting, please stop at Stewarts and pass your ideas along to them. They will be sure to forward you information.
Thank you again Cindy

Cindy, if your schedule allows I would suggest an on-line High School English class or maybe 3rd Grade.
