We live in Fort Oglethorpe and usually visit the Battlefield three or four times per year. On this visit the sun was just right to add some definition to the monument. Without the shadows the picture looks to one dimensional.
Thousands turn out to the park each year for reenactments, to hear concerts and for various educational experiences. In 1863,thousands died on these grounds and many more were injured. It is generally considered that the south won this particular battle and the north pulled back into Chattanooga to lick their wounds. Shortly thereafter the war turned in the north's favor.
