Yeah it was the DEA building blown up I believe in the 90s.

I lived there nearly 40 years.. that area of the state is massively corrupt from the government down to many of the businesses who operate with much the same attitude. Crime, officers who shoot residents with no investigation, and huge amounts of agricultural pollution in the fresh and salt water mixed with flesh eating bacteria in the water and severely degraded marine habitats from over building have turned it into an "I got mine.. go get your own" place.

Overall, there are a lot of dreamers who move there in hopes of something better.. but once the money runs out they're Desperado.. you can't feed yourself or a family on sunshine and day dreams...

Jeez, you are all on drugs ! Ft Myers might have its crime just like any other city but I have lived in Cape Coral (25min away from ft myers) for oven 13 years and it is a wonderful place. Most of you are talking about living in the ghetto of fort myers, yes there are shootings and murders, but not all over fort myers. I love raising my daughter in this area, it's quiet and a great affordable place to live.

Lots of dumb hicks and miserable snowbirds. Zero culture, restaurants are all chains. People are constantly on cell phones and / or making uturns while driving.

The schools are the worst in the country and teach that the civil war was a tie lol. That's why there are no slaves, the south needed a reconstruction, and the confederate soldiers are all burning in hell.

Toilets? When I inquired the two Msgts roared with laughter and pointed to an entrenching tool with a roll of paper. They pointed to the door and told me : "a hundred yards down the hill in any direction..make plenty of noise so the rattlers and alligators know to get out of the way. " Only person I heard got hurt was a jeep driver dumb enough to aim for a rattler. The knobby tires through the snake up at the driver who had to be taken to the hospital. Back in Panama City high sheriff "Doc" Daffin provided TV entertainment from time to time. You did have to watch out for those roadside drainage ditches. I knew a guy saved his pay from Vietnam and bought a 396/425 HP Chevelle SS which he rolled into one of those ditches first week.(survived being mortared to almost get killed in his car). Strangely enough I miss those days.
Bet you did not know I recently met someone that works at GM and a retro 69 Chevelle SS will come out in 2015.

Ahhh, yes, because when I walk the streets of Fort Myers, I'm forever seeing shells of bombed buildings and having to duck the hale of bullets coming from every corner :P

Let's not trivialize real war zones and what people have to go through living in a war torn city by comparing it to Fort Myers.

Anyway, Little Pakistan, for as far as I can see, came about because of a rise in the hip-hop scene and it's not cool to be a rapper coming from the suburbs. You have to make it sound a little more fierce so by comparing to Pakistan, you can get some more cred.

fort myers is more the suburbs like I said you can't rap about that! Yes there is some bad part but I have lived here all my life and where a live there is barley any crime. You just don't go Into certain part looking for trouble! We have beautiful beach and amazing people! Don't listen to these people cause they either are making stuff up or they lived in the bad parts! If I where you this would be the perfect place to move ore vocation! Fort myers is one of the number one vocational spots in the word and sanibel is on the list of top ten beaches! People wouldn't come here and keep coming here if what people said in the commits was actually true!

Yes,there are hundreds of gated and guarded communities to choose from. But be careful this town has more realtors than mosquitoes who have less ethics than used car salesman.

lol Me too! Im in NYC and although at first I was frightened away by their terror, I am now getting the vibe that it's all an exaggeration. I've seen more dangerous ghetto people in an average day here than these people have seen their entire lives...I'd say more like conservative old white people more than country bumpkin ;)

Try the Fort Myers Villas it's a well established neighborhood of well kept homes plus there is no less than 50 restaurants of all types you can get to without ever getting on US 41. It's quiet here with very low crime rate. The ones that were causing problems are now in prison for long time as they were felony reoffenders. Felony reoffender works almost like the 3 strikes law in California except you only get no strikes when released from prison.

Also look at lee county property appraiser and hunt for houses that way. You will see if a house is bank owned and also find permit history etc. You will find some real bargains. My hair stylist found a 4 bed 3 Ba 3 car garage for 70k that had already been renovated with updated kitchen open concept and granite counters etc. The new appraisal is at $187,000!!!!!

Stay away from Lehigh Acres which is quickly becoming America's largest ghetto. There is getting to be nearly a killing or 3 a week. I and other investors will not even touch Lehigh Acres. 90% of people I talk to plan to move from Lehigh Acres it's becoming a slum and is already a cesspool.

The Fort Myers Villas has homeowners association with relaxed rules and no association fees. The Villas does not allow section 8 housing which is big part of Lehigh Acres problem. I and other investors have come to agreement the only real solution to Lehigh is to demolish every house and start all over. You may buy house there for $130,000 but way things are going house will be worth maybe $100,000-112,000 in 30 years. That's instant negative equity.

Crime is many thousands of times worse than even portrayed. Fort Myers aka Fort Crimers/Little Pakistan, Little Baghdad, is amongst the most dangerous places in the Western Hemisphere. Terrorists are everywhere They always blow up stuff left and right on a daily basis. And then they rob all the victims, steal their identities, money, credit cards, and then use it all to buy drugs. Even the Mayor of Fort Myers is a known terrorist who has likely even perpetrated 9/11 and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. I am sure at least 99.9% of all vacationers who visited Fort Myers remember the smell of sulfur, gunpowder, burning plastic, rubber, paint, all that typical stench of a typical structure fire mixed in with the smell of detonated explosives that hangs in the air all 24 hours a day, every day. Even tap water in Fort Myers has a nasty sulfuric taste mixed in with tastes of burned plastic, burned rubber, and such mixed in.
But truthfully, there is no such thing as "safety" in the State of Florida. Even if Fort Myers had a crime rate of zero, you also deal with big, giant, mutant, man-eating cockroaches that fly. They grow as big as 25 feet long, they eat people left and right. Mosquitoes that grow to 10 feet long, when one of those bites you, it's stinger easily drills right through you like a skewer, and then you need to go to the emergency room and get stitches. Additionally, those mosquitoes have a type of saliva that is extremely corrosive and burns right through your organs like acid. Also, the alligators get up to 300 feet long, and they also eat people left and right, and they are totally impossible to hide from as they can easily smash right through steel reinforced poured concrete (the alligators are even capable of bringing down a steel frame skyscraper!) and they'll gobble you right up in a heartbeat. Additionally, there are poisonous snakes that will slither up out of your toilet and bite you on your rear while you are going to the bathroom. They also come out of drains, bite and nibble on people's feet while taking a shower and nibble on people's hands and arms while doing dishes, and they have the strength to smash right through a steel drain plug, even with enough force to destroy a sink and/or bathtub for good.
They must really be bad - maybe even cause mental defects in some people !!
