I am sure that many of you have received various flyers over the past few weeks that are attempts to discredit, slander and embarrass myself, my husband and also another Newport taxpayer and parent, Melissa Sheffel...we are all running for seats on the Newport School Board. This is not an attempt to sway your vote. Rather, it is an opportunity for me as a human being with values and Christian beliefs to set the record straight about the vicious attacks and fabrications that I have faced over the course of this campaign. First and foremost, I am a mother. My goal everyday is to live my life as a person that my children can be proud of....to make choices that can impact the lives of people around me in positive ways and to use my talents to be a blessing to others. This campaign has been a test of these core beliefs. It's human nature to want to lash out on someone who wrongs you in some way. I have chosen not to succumb to the ways of this world and the ways of politics that tell you to win at any cost, find tactics that will slander your opponents in hopes that people will be swayed by them...use any means necessary to lie and fabricate the truth for your own personal gain. I do not live my life this way and I will not run a campaign for school board this way. If it is my calling to be part of this school board, then I will be elected. If it is not, then I can rest assured knowing that I did not let people of no faith or character pull me down to fight at their level. As a mother, this may be one of the greatest lessons I could ever teach my children - don't let the prospect of victory change your character...maintain your integrity and hold your head up knowing that you were honest, even in defeat. My identity and self-worth are not wrapped up in whether I am elected to the Newport School Board. It is obvious by the lies and fabrications about me that my opponents have used that this election is extremely important to them. I pray for them. Janean Parsons

Janean - Welcome to the club of those whose family, reputation, and personal integrity have been attacked. Not fun, is it. Just for the record, your "opponents" had nothing to do with the handout. It was done by an independent group of citizens of Newport, aka voters. Elections are no fun. Sorry you've learned that the hard way. Andrea

Thanks so much for your words of wisdom, Andrea...while I have chosen to not participate in slanderous attacks, bullying and harassment to further my campaign, I am not naive to the identities of those from whom those attacks have come. As you know, we are only as valid as the character we emanate and the associations we keep. We do hold a common interest, we are both mothers. As such, it is invaluable when you can look into the eyes of your child and know that you have conducted yourself in only ways that they can be proud of…I can say with certainty that my children would be proud of me today by the example I have set for them. I pray for you and all those involved. Janean Parsons

If the handouts were made by a citizens group for the children of Newport, how come none of the parents who have children in the schools have never heard of such a group or been invited to join it?
Maybe because the group meets at 40 E. 10th Street in Newport?

The fact is the handout did have one correct thing on it. Mildred Dean did have a drop in numbers. But the real fact is, they still are one of the top schools in Kentucky. They are exceeding all expectations the new Super had in place 4 years ago. So to try and lash out at a parent that is involved with her childs education that is just down right dirty. On Tuesday what everyone needs to do is just vote for the new people and not even cast a vote for these jokes on the board now. My child goes to Mildred Dean and I would never think of sending them to another school. Andrea has falling into the ways of her partner (KIDNEY) they will do anything they can do at any cost to win. Thanks for killing more trees Andrea with your bullcrap handout. You know if you lose this election you will yank your child out of this system faster than Brandt gets raises. Thank you Ms. Parsons for having a good heart. You have my vote and many in the South end of Newport. Good Luck!

Janean Parsons I saw you cackling at board meetings. I have the wildcat channel. You were rude to Brandt. You need to watch the company you keep. You are well known to hang with two of Newport's biggest trouble making teachers - REAL CHRISTAIN! I guess that's setting yourself up for when you move your kids to St. Therese ...

I was told that Mrs. Parson's has NO intention of ever sending her kid to the Newport Middle School. Should this be someone elected to the Newport Board of Education?

Time will tell...but my money says "ain't no way"! So many at Mildred Dean do not...it seems to be a prep school for St. Therese or just a cheap alternative until they have to choose.
