You know what will happen? All of the "Thugs" and "Bangers" will start hanging out at the casino, then there will be a shooting, and then no one will go-accept the gang bangers, lol. i can't wait to see this implode.

Not sure if your response means state size? or population? or longitude or latitude?, but crime from gambling can come from anywhere at anytime...unless of course you mean Ohioans especially those from Columbus have more self control and common sense then all of NJ then it makes no sense to compare the two. but i don't know anything anyway... do you..really?.

I look forward to the day to cast my vote (again) against the casino. They'll bring nothing but their pain and misery to everyone near them. My only hope is that if the owner's and their patrons succeed in placing their rat hole anywhere, it's at least away from decent people who just want to keep a beautiful city moving in the direction of arts, science, culture, and family oriented events. It's utterly laughable those who are trying to compare this situation to the smoking ban. Let's face it, no one cares if you want to pollute yourself with lung cancer or throw away your paycheck on gambling. Problem is, you'll just end up needing the support of those who opposed you when your luck runs out and you end up broke or needing health care and you don't have the foresight or funds to deal with it.

Ahhhhhh!!!! THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING!!!! Go back into your hole. Just hide inside your house and everything will be okay. That evil casino and the even more evil people that go there won't be able to get you!! You sound awefully convinced that nothing but hardship is coming for anyone that dares set foot into a casino. Prove your point with some evidence why don't you? Oh, that's right, you can't. You're only spewing lies and hype!!!

You have obviously listened to much to The Dispatch or maybe your local pastor at church (who doesn't want casino's to come because then his precious bingo night money might be taxed). What is utterly laughable is that you think anyone who goes to a casino is going to end up on welfare. I might go and take $100 for a fun night out and a possibility of winning more money, I would easilly spend more than that anywhere else in the arena district. I would be more worried about people spending all their money at all the liquor stores around you. Those are the people who have a high possibility of ending up on the streets, not someone who enjoys a trip to a casino.

I was hoping for a response from a more educated source than "Jonathan S" or "Excited". Both assume WAY too much about me - and incorrectly I might add. All either of you has to do is some research on how casinos drain a city of resources (if you don't know what that is, you can Google it to find out), only to provide menial jobs in return and take hard earned cash (assuming you work) from fools like you. Again, no one cares what you choose to do with your time and cash. We just want you to do it someplace else where we don't have to be bothered by your inadequacies while we are giving our families and children quality time. No one cares about you.

You look to be the one assuming. Not everyone is old and has a wife and kids. Obviously if I did I wouldn't be going to the casino as much, but I sure wouldn't try to ruin everyone elses fun. What I do have is a good job, friends, and some time on my hands to have some fun. I don't know why people like you are so worried about what other people do, you obviously don't go down to the arena district anyway. The people who are gambling away their grocery money are already doing that in neighboring states, why not keep their money here in Ohio? The casino would do nothing but provide more businesss to arena district other than drunk college students. If you are a fun hater that's fine, just don't go. You would even notice it's there.

At least the levy passing this time was approved by majority of the community it affects. The majority vote for a Columbus casino DID NOT come from Columbus voters. <quoted text> Are you insinuating that Penn National and Dan Gilbert were a whole lot smarter than our legislators?

Well, "Excited", you just explained a lot. You would have to be a naive kid to think that casino "fun" is going to be good for our city. But then, you are thinking short term and only of yourself. When you grow up, you might get lucky and get a real clue of what "fun" really is. For now, you will have to settle for wasting your time and money and killing your brain cells on booze and hoping to get laid by someone as clueless as you. It's people like you that end up being a general drain on society. At least the casino owners will appreciate you and all the other suckers they lure in.

I do love booze and chasing girls, can't argue that. But if people like me are going to be a drain on society then you might as well move to Canada now, because I don't know a single person my age (26) who doesn't like to do those things. I live by the buffalo herd theory. A herd is only as strong as the weakest buffalo, so the weaker ones need to be killed off for the strongest to survive. The brain is the same way. You have to kill off some of the weaker brain cells so you can reproduce stronger ones, which in turn makes you smarter. Ahh the things you learn in college.

You don't know anyone who doesn't do those things because that's who you hang out with. Look, I actually got a chuckle out of your post, but leave the "big" decisions to those that are more responsible. Like I said a while back, no one cares what you do. It's your life, live it as you choose. There is a much bigger picture here though. A fair compromise is to re-locate the rat hole, err, uh, casino away from an area that has invested quite a bit on a more solid future for the city and its residents.

I just think the arena district is the perfect place for it. I probably go down to the arena for a night out about once a month. From my experiences, I'd say the average age group down there is between 21-25. Everyone is drunk out of their minds and out until 3am yelling trying to find a cab or a hot gyro. The only way the casino would turn into a "rat hole" is if it was put into a run down area like westland. I don't know, to each it's own. I can understand not wanting to gamble, just think people should have the choice. But if it is built somewhere else I won't really care as long as it's still in Columbus. Just think if they want a "classy" development it needs to be put in a nice area and have regulations and dress codes (no do rags, pants sagging to the knees, etc)

Lipstick on a pig. We've gone to several different venues in the Arena District and none had anything to do with bars and/or drunken losers. Ever hear of a ball game or hockey? How about Cirque du Soleil? You really should get out in the world more as well. I missed my college graduation because I travelled to Europe with a friend. Took a train from Bahn, Germany to Paris. The addicts and losers of the world like places like Vegas and think that they've seen the world when they go there. They live in a little glass bubble and don't even know it. I couldn't care less what people do or do to each other as long as they're not hurting kids or doing something that's not consentual. They just need to do it somewhere where productive people can live a decent life and not have to be bothered with their crap 24/7 (which is how long casinos are open) and their drunk drivers and congestion on highways, crime and misc other BS when all people want to do is something like take their kid to a ball game. Casinos belong somewhere away from the mainstream. Not in the backyards of newly built condos, parks, etc... Time will tell, but I see a new day coming for this area and it doesn't include a glorified rat hole.

I bet on football and play poker whenever I want from the comfort of my own home. I've been doing it for nearly 10 years now. And I still haven't missed a mortgage payment. For someone that doesn't care what I do, you seem to be spending alot of time here. How lovely it is that when you're challanged to prove the claims that you're making you say to google it. Guess that proves that you can't prove anything.

The voters of Ohio approved it. If Columbus somehow skirts the law (imagine that with Gary Coleman at the helm!), then Columbus should not reap any of the benefits realized by the casinos. This includes the funding generated for the Columbus Schools.
