We are moving to Fort Mill - Cascades at River Crossing to be exact. Any info on day care centers will be appreciated. Also, is there flooding in the area? How about neighborhood safety?

Thanks a lot for any info.

There are quite a few good centers in Fort Mill. I've heard good things about the following centers:
Kiddie Kare
Fort Mill Preparatory School
Appleseed Dev Ctr
Good Shepherd
Kids R Kids in Rock Hill (opening a Fort Mill location in 2007)

I forgot Carolina Kids - that's the one that's in Rock Hill but opening a Fort Mill location in 2007. I got the two places confused. I've heard GREAT things about Carolina Kids.

Probably too late, but my kids go to Fort Mill Prep. Let me know if you have any questions.

I did not see any information about Appleseed and we're on the wait list there. Any articles in particular that I should search for?

would not recommend KidsRKids. I have worked there 3 wks and I am already looking for a new job. The average staff member is there 3 months, and kids are dropping like flys. The management is horrible. This is the reason for the turn over. I was told that you could not teach the children their ABC or numbers because it was not in the curriculum. I was told this by management. The owner is the biggest problem with the place.

A new Goddard School is set to open sometime in 2008 in Fort Mill.. They have a very good educational curriculum, we used them in Ohio. It was great to see a child eager to go to school.

Re: Appleseed is "Horrible"??? one person's opinion is NOT fact. In my opinion, this is a wonderful daycare facility which my pre-schooler atteneded. The owners are dedicated to education in a family oriented environment. I've never heard any other complaints.

Obviously a disgruntled employee. Do your job the way it should be done and quit complaining. My children have been there since it opened and they are awesome. The Kids R Kids philosophy and curriculum is wonderful. I have no complaints.

I totally agree with Queenybaby, KidsrKids in Fort Mill, has the worst owner. He is not a kid friendly person at all. I worked there for 3 days and qiut it.

all and all i wouldn't even worry about daycare....you need to worry about the jr high and high schools....they are horrible...fort mill may have the best schools in south carolina but south carolina is ranked almost at the bottom of the list nation wide....so big deal u get the best of the worst...most of the problems in the schools here are from zealots who try to push religion on your kids....

I take school rankings with a grain of salt. I relocated from NJ. My child moved from a private school in NJ to the Fort Mill School District and we are both quite happy with the change. Some of my co-workers who relocated from Chatham NJ are also pleased with Fort Mill schools. Chatham NJ has the Nation's top rated school district.

School rankings consider money spent per child and student teacher ratios. Other factors might be more important. I think parental involvement is more important. Parents who make education a priority will have kids that do well regardless of what grade/high schools they attend.

in response to Sue Jones, you better worry plenty before sending a child to any daycare, enough to really check it out top to bottom and inside out. the kids you leave in such places are often unable to tell you if someone is mistreating them, or even just ignoring them and leaving them to vegetate all day. even children old enough to theoretically tell you things can be easily intimated into not doing so, so you are your childrens only line of defense. how many times have you seen caregiver horror stories on the news where nobody realized what was happening?

Fort Mill Prep School is a preschool that is diffrent. Children play on a playground that is all natural. No concrete, No gravel. The children are encouraged to explore, run, climb (there are trees to climb)This school is not owned by a francise and the staff have to be certified by the state or currently in college. The teachers may not know what happened when a child received scratches on the playground-that is a honest answer-but in 7 years FMPS has not had any major concerns with safety!Check out SC licencing we have a excellent record. FMPS is the choice for teachers children in the community. FMPS reputation speaks for its self!

In response to Karen comment about FMPS. The school is not a brand new facility. What is filthy? Children do art on easels every day. Paint is out and available. Sensory tubs have rice, beans things for scooping and pouring. Children get on the floor and build with blocks. The rooms are cleaned every day. The bathrooms cleaned at nap and at 4pm when the carpet is vacumed. A natural playground means kids have dirt on them...They are kids!!Each kid washes hands each time they come in the classroom and hand sanitizer is outside each door. I have asked our parents and they are happy that children are learning as they play. FMPS rates very high on the national environmental rating scale. FMPS allows children to have real experiences.
