Darren, maybe you can contact WTVR and see if you can get Mark Holmberg to help you. He seems to enjoy human interest stories. I would think he'd be inclined to help you out, since you have admirably served your country. Also, since you're in the service I have an unrelated question. Do bases such as Ft Lee provide any services or kennels for those soldiers who do have pets? If not, it looks like they would think about some type of boarding facilities or fostering programs for them.

This story along with the naked drunk guy story reminds me why I don't ever watch CBS 6 news. It's almost like watching an out of work lawyer chasing ambulances around town.
THIS IS WHY I HAVE SWITCHED TO CHANNEL 12 WTVR NEVER REPORTS NEWS BUT THEY ARE DAM GOOD AT REPORTING SENSALISAM
You don't watch them, you just like to post on their forum.

I can attest for Darren, this is definately something he does not need at this time as he is fighting for our country. He's a great guy, and I can tell you first hand, that the images on TV did not do things justice. I can't quite comment on the situation myself, but if you guys are only here to "bash" the story, or knock on Darren, you really need to get a life and leave this great guy alone. This is a matter that needs to be resolved, whether it be human, k9, feline, or chicken blood, it needs to be resolved, and from what I've seen personally, the Petersburg PD could give 2 you know whats about the situation.
I am with you. OK Petersburg PD just because your Fire Dept abuses animals doesn't mean you should too. Darren is a soldier of the USA and deserves respect. If you want our respect care and solve this crime.

Thank you.

Maddy, thank you so much. I am almost finished with this deployment and I am looking forward to being able to come home next month. I wish I didn't have this waiting for me, but I will engage this situation until resolution is reached. I appreciate the kind thoughts towards service members as we all make sacrifices daily. I would like to think that the local authorities would have enough respect for all citizens to do what is right. Regardless of their occupation.

Abby,
There are organizations who will foster animals for soldiers when they deploy. I looked into it, but I thought I had a plan that was better. My wife at the time was to care for the animals and our house. She decided she couldn't deal with me being deployed and she left the house and my animals. I was already deployed when this took place. My tenant was supposed to care for the animals and I thought he could be trusted as my brother lives in short pump and frequently checked on the house and the animals. For whatever reason things went wrong. I don't know why or how. I refuse to accept these hideous stories that another soldier(the tenant) have told the local authorities and myself. Nothing adds up and I will not stop until I know what happened in my house. The tenant actually had 4 flat tires shortly before this incident occurred. I don't think these things just randomly happened. There were events leading up to this. I'm waiting for someone to do their job and find the answers. I am very greatful to WTVR channel 6 for their support and the investigative reporting they have conducted. I feel that one way or another we will get the answers as to what conspired at my house. I thank everyone for their support.

Evan,
I am positive the dog on the right is Shelby.....a pit mix that I got 7 years ago in Florida. This picture was taken in a hotel room we stayed at as my wife, my mother and I drove across country from Yakima, WA to Petersburg, VA as I recieved PCS orders. If you have a dog that looks like this I would definitely be interested.

So none of you would be concerned if you came home from a military tour, and your pet (dog) was dead, your house was filled with pools of blood, and the police refused to do anything about it?
I would have called every new station in the next 10 closest zip codes
why wait 4 months later to make a big deal about it? If it was me I would stayed till i got answers on what happen in my home. Thats just me.

We were awaiting results from blood work that we were told would take 5 to 6 months to process. I was having new floors put into my house while deployed (just recently). My contractor e-mailed me to inform me that when he removed the peel and stick tile in the kitchen there were large amounts of blood that hadn't been discovered previously. I'm guessing it seeped down in the cracks between the tiles. Regardless the subflooring as you saw in the clip has a large amount of blood on it. I contacted the police to see if they could get a sample to compare it to the rest of the blood evidence they previously collected and sent for testing. They then admitted they had done nothing and weren't persuing anything. Hope this answers your question. I had been told it was being investigated. I also have a duty. I signed on the dotted line and want to fulfill my obligation here on my deployment. Quite honestly, I didn't want to be around what I did find over my mid tour leave. I needed to get away and try to stay focused on what I'm doing here. The best move was to get away from things and give the authorities the opportunity to do their job. Unfortuneatly in this case they have failed miserably thus far.

Wow. Its a very disturbing story. One that i am anxious to find out the resolution. But really guys, alot of you sound like you are blaming this poor soldier for what happened. I doubt the army would take "i cant find a place for my dog" as an excuse for AWAL. It sounds to me like this is a man who did the best he could, while he had so many other things going on in his life.
I hope closure is found for all those involved. Something about knowing no crime, in any sort, was commited where you lay, makes for a good nights sleep. As for Darren, im sorry for your lose, and thank you for all you do for our country. If anyone deserves answers, its you.
