I hope they start with those City Council members that own run down property. How is this going to affect the Gang of Four when Code Enforcement starts cracking down on the Landlords that back them? Is this going to be fair to all or just a few?
This will only last up and until it hitís the Elite in Hopewell. Hopewell does need cleaned up. The problem is that there is more rental property in Hopewell then there is Home Owner property. If you want to clean up Hopewell figure out a way to get people to buy homes instead of rent. I know it is easier said than done.
Pride in ownership will always trump renting. I am not saying all renters are bad. If you own something you take care of it. If you rent it the attitude is it's not mine so who cares.
Also people need to take pride in what they do have. Not everyone can afford to buy a home but take pride in what you do have.
Certain City Council members should lead by example and bring their properties up to Code. Like the building downtown near the Beacon.

We have landlords that constantly rent to druggies, and drug dealers. Their renters move out and leave their trash all over the lawn or at the curb for someone else to clean up. Landlords need to be held accountable for the renters, and need to pay business taxes along with real-estate taxes on their rental property. And if the property gets run down, stiff fines until it gets fixed up properly.
