We should make hate crimes like opposing gay marriage a criminal offense. Is should be illegal to teach children that there is anything wrong with homosexuality. Any church that teaches this bigotry should be stripped of its tax exempt status. Schools need to promote gay is OK and teach them that only bigots don't support gay rights. The government should require all employees to attend diversity seminars on homosexuality and fire anyone unwilling to give up any bigoted anti gay rights views they hold

This amendment would take away rights from all unmarried floridians... and besides, gay marriage is already illegal in Florida. don't we have more urgent things to worry about in this state than intruding in people's personal lives?

I see you're upset. But why go after Churches? They just follow the bible which is very direct about homosexuality.

If you want to be together make it a union or partnership. Not marriage.

And lastly....say NO to Obama.

No, people can hold any political beliefs they want to. No, parents can teach their kids anything they want to. No, churches can teach their followers whatever they want to (they just can't become political organizations supporting specific candidates and keep their tax exempt status).

Yes, schools should teach gay is ok. That is completely separate from what parents want to teach at home. However, schools don't have to get into labels of bigotry for holding beliefs. All schools have to make clear is that no matter what beliefs you hold, students are to respect their fellow classmates, including their gay ones. Yes, all government employees should probably attend diversity seminars including gays, but employees who hold anti-gay views should NOT be fired. Same rule as school applies, they must simply respect their fellow employees and not create a hostile work environment.

See, we can work through that reasonably without all the hyperbole.

It's been several days and I've only read ONE, count it, ONE article about the Florida referendum that mentions the recent Michigan Supreme Court decision that says it's similar "substantial equivilent to marriage" ban includes already existing domestic partnerships. Watch out seniors, and don't say we didn't warn you...

<quoted text>
As long as the government makes YOUR marriage a "union" or "partnership" in the eyes of the law (your religion can still call it marriage if it wants, but the government isn't allowed to), then we can agree.

This is a very important vote because it needs 60 percent of the vote to pass. That means, if it gets 61%, a change of 11 percentage points won't be enough to overturn it in a few years. Public opinion would need to swing 20% to overturn it (going from 60% against gay marriage to 60% for it).

The possible referendum in California is largely irrelevant because it only needs 50% of the vote, and if it passes, gay rights organizations can gather signatures in a year or two, swing public opinion a few percentage points, and overturn it.

It's election time again in the very important swing State of Florida. The Republican operatives need to get-the-vote out in November, but how do you get the conservatives to the polls, especially the Religious Right? Answer: you play the Gay Card. It seems nothing gets the "Christian" Right frothing more at-the-mouth than gay people, and the GOP is fully aware of this. But never under-estimate people being driven by a combination of fear and faith. Scapegoats are easy to create, fun-to-use, and oh so effective. The American author, Sinclair Lewis after visiting Nazi Germany just prior to the war remarked, "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross". How true, Mr. Lewis, how true.

To Fragante Delicto: may I suggest the slogan, "Children, Kitchen, Church"? I think that would make a lovely family-values poster. What do you think?

The gay marriage ban is just another ploy by the Republicans to get idiot voters to hand over control to them and the corporations. Same-sex marriage is already against the law in Florida.

And BTW, these GOP morality hypocrites are the most likely to be closet cases & secret clients of prostitutes. So don't blame the gays for the decline of traditional marriage.

See King David, King Solomon, and Elkanah (1 Samuel 1) and then get back to us about the ONE man and ONE woman argument.

You sound like Bin Laden.

The Bible says slavery is okay. What do you have to say about that fact? The Bible places eating lobster or any other shellfish on the same sin level as homosexuality. Why don't you post about that or have you had shellfish before?

The Bible says wearing mixed fabric is an abomination to God. Why don't you warm about clothing?

The Bible is clear that only those with out sin can cast the first stones or Judge others so why do you go against the Bible by throwing rocks and judging others?

Why do I have no respect for bigots? You are a great example. I’d not pizz on ya if you were on fire.

Get lost Bin Laden type.
