There are usually few surprises at this point in " American Idol " - mostly either disappointments or travesties - and it's up to you to decide which category last night's Carly Smithson 's ejection falls into.

I was totally disgusted with last nights results of Idol. Are people tone deaf or do they not listen to the singers.

Jason and Brooke were terrible and Carly was great.

Carly has a fantastic voice.

Isn't this a singing competition? It seems to be a popularity
contest.

I wish that the voters would wake up and smell the coffee or have there ears flushed.

The only positive thing coming out of this decision is that we no longer have to see her husband's face.

Last night's American Idol may be the last I'll ever watch. This has become about tweenies and 13-year old mosh pit residents calling the shots. What can they possibly know about talent? I get it that Jason is adorable. But who can possibly make up Brooke's fan base? She is the most annoying female with limited vocal range and style.
Looking forward to "So YOu Think You Can Dance". That show, thus far, has been about talent!!

I think this speaks more to song choice again. America, as secular as it has become doesn't like to hear blasphemy - you can wrap it up in a song and put a pretty face and beautiful voice around it, but it's still blasphemy. Song choice is important - but even famous (or is it more correct to say - especially the famous) songwriters don't always write proper songs. And this is one that should be forgotten and not brought back.

There's a price for every choice we make. Whether it's spending an hour to watch some young people try to win a contest or if it's spending several months of you life to win that contest - there are things you cannot do because you spent that time. Now Carly gets to go home and work on something else - because she chose to sing a blasphemous song.

Yeah, I just don't get this. As I've said before, the show is obviously not about talent but about popularity with the tweenies.

First of all, there are more controversial things out there. Second, JC Superstar is an awesome show. Third, it's about talent, not song choice.

Very dissapointing last night. I don't think Carly would have won the competition but she should have stayed last night I think from tuesday's performances Brooke,Jason or Syesha should have gone home. If this competion remains true to a singing contest than david Cook should win it hands down!

My 12 yr old daughter and her friends voted 17,000 times for Jason Castro because they like his braids.

At this point the teenies aren't even listening to the music and are going on pure popularity.

That's why this show is a farce.

This show is ridiculous! Just a popularity contest - I guess if you look good & get teenagers to adore you, you don't need any talent. There should be music industry judges instead of the mindless teen calling/texting. The best consolation for Carly is that people in the music industry got to hear her again & the contracts will come again. She has an amazing voice, one that I will pay money to hear! The ones who win without the talent will just fade into "one hit wonders" heaven. I certainly won't be watching any more. If it is a talent contest there should be talent!

I believe the bottom 2 will be David Cook and David Archuletta if it remains a tweeny popularity contest than David Cook may not win which wod be a real travisty since he has such an unbeleiveable talent not only the voice but as smon says he has the whole package! So if you all believe it is a talent contest you have to call and vote!

Definately, Brook and Jason should have been in the bottom two. Not Carly or Sayesha. America got it wrong.

In part I do agree with you on song choice because if Kristy Lee Cook didn't sing the God bless the USA song that one week she would have been gone. You have to remember people in the Bible belt watch this show and there are alot of them out there christians and do gooders love the God bless songs. I do however disagree that Jesus Christ Superstar is blasphemous if you know the song and it's meaning you would not say that.

Fran is right. I said that last night. Think about it - Michael Johns is gone. He was caught between older folks and to old for teeny boppers. He should still be here. The last 2 should be Davids and that little twerpy Howdy Doody will get votes from these little kids that have sell phones and text all night long. Carly wasn't going to win, but give me a break. Jason and Brook. He is as dumb as dirt and she is always crying. Syesha is great but has no fan base at all. The judges need to have more say. After Daughtry getting kicked off early last year I have been watching less and the rating are beginning to flop. Heck they didn't even raise as much of our money for the give back. Which I for one am the one giving back, not Idol.

I think Carly's rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar was great. for those of you who cry blasphemy: Jesus was a black man. deal with it.

as i watched Carly lose, i thought damn -- i hope those tattoos are worth it, because they will prevent her for doing any broadway shows. Which, considering how awesome her performance was, she appears to be well-suited for.

I can't believe the people would vote off one of the best singers on idol.... What a shame! I wish the best for her. I am sure she will go far.
