When this store had it's grand re-opening in August of 1980 or 1981, I was living with a flight attendent who won a $10,000 shopping spree there. She bought a mink coat and a pair of nylons. Way to go babe!

Anyone who has been in this store knows that the selection was awful, the place looked old and outdated and mold was growing everywhere. Horrible excuse for a Saks!!!

Taxes and lack of quality jobs are killing South Florida. The inflated real estate prices, insurance, and their respective taxes are killing Floridians, no disposeable income. As for tourism, who is going to come for a vacation when it costs $400 a night. In turn, less tourist money being spent at stores and restaurants. We reap what we sow. Only a magic wand will be able to save us from these problems.

Was it really a Saks? It never seemed like one. The men's department was particularly weak. It also closed earlier than other stores in the mall. We have all (Ft. Lauderdale) been forced to drive to Town Center or Bal Habour for a number of years. The weak shopping experience (are you listening city leaders?) in Ft. Lauderdale does not enhance property values.

I never like shopping at Galleria Mall. Everything is so expensive aside from the traffic congestion.

And guess what Jerry? We don't miss you at all! Something tells me you weren't a Saks customer either! Maybe the new Cookie Diet shop is more what you need.

The biggest problem is the state's policy on property usage -- they based it on the highest possible best use of the property. If these idiotic politicians and appraisal officers think they can put a taj Mahal in that property, they will value it more than what any person/investors are willing to pay for! They think they can do anything they want!

Wow! That much or you're just joking! I won't spend that much money on clothes with the exception that it is made of pure gold!

That's a shame. I went there to celebrate my new job in Fort Lauderdale when I moved here 6 yrs ago.

I bought a $300 pair of pants that I never wore.

Worth every penny.

The economy would not be so depressing if it were not for the gloom and doom media. Sun Sentinel - TV stations: look for some of the positive stories and put them on the front page- not buried on C48

blah..blah..blah. the reality is gas prices, falling market prices of houses, incleased taxes, and insurance cost for homes are driving people to tighten up their spending. Lord and Taylor also closed their Plantation store in Broward county years ago at the Galleria mall. Macys never reopened it stoe at the fashion amll after hurricane Willma. What i find unbelievabl, is that Saks at the Galleria Malll employed employed 61 people.

I never liked shopping there, either. I always would get lost because of the different levels, both on store level & parking level. I do most of my shopping over the internet, especially when I can get free shipping.

To the Dr. Bobs. One of you should register that name in a hurry. Then there will be no doubt who the "real" Dr Bob is.

Wow, sounds like she was a really classy dame. I bet she also drove around in a Buick Skylark with a vanity plate on the front that said "Touch of Class." Because everyone knows that's what the REALLY classy ladies do.

In Feb. I had dropped my wife off at the Galleria to shop while I went with a friend to the gun show at War Memorial.

When we left to go back and pick her up, I called her to let her know we were on our way. As we neared, she called and, with a worried voice, told me that she was being followed by a gangbanger, then noticed others trying to follow her as well. I told her to look for a cop. She said she hadn't seen on the entire 2 hours she was there. I advised how to lose them in one store then bolt downstairs for us to pick her up.

They were lucky they didn't follow her out. I wonder how many gangbangers know how lucky they are to be alive today, saved by not being fated to confront an armed citizen. You read more and more about citizens defending themselves. The place, according to her description, is going downhill. Too many gangbangers, not enough tourists?
