It is absolutely inconceiveable that the United States would elect a candidate who's mentor was the late communist Frank Marshall Davis (read Obama's 1st book; he writes glowinly of Frank). Obama's "redistribution of wealth" statement is absolutely socialist, communist countries do and did this very thing. Are the American people so brainwashed with a man who is attempting to buy the White House? Absolutely unbelieveable. I'm 69 and never did I think in my lifetime such a radical would be running for the highest office in our land, much less have so many supporters. American has "changed" but not for the better.

Whether Joe is who he says he is or not isn't the point! It's Obama's words "It's not that I want to punish you, but we need to spread the wealth around". I don't know about everyone else but I was taught that particular ideology represents socialism/ communism. America was not founded on those principals.

I see the many posters here miss entirely the point of this article. Joe's background is irrelavant to the question he asked. The answer is what is important, and regardless of what Joe may or may not be it does not change the response from Obama.

When citizens of America become afraid to even ask the question then we should all be very fearful for eventually you posters above may find your own head on that proverbial pike.

While the GOP Bush is nationalizing banks and financial institutions, does it still make sense to see the "Spread the wealth around" as a mistake or 'socialism'? Joe the Plumber is one of the GOP victims who've been taught to think that paying tax is un-patriotic but spending unlimited amount in unjustified wars in Iraq is patriotic.

You're absolutely right. The Obama camp knows that Obama messed up and scared a lot of people with his answer to Joe. Once they realized the damage that Obama did, they decided to attack Joe to try and take the focus off of Obama's socialist answer.
Obama's camp is trying to make you think that what is important is that Joe is not a plumber and doesn't own his business. What the Obama camp doesn't realize is that American's are not stupid, American's know that a guy with the middle name of Joseph asked Obama a question and Obama's answer has scared a lot of business owners

Joe can thank McCain for giving his first and last name to the public during the broadcast of the third debate. NICE MOVE.

Wonderfully written. It is a sign of what is to come if Obama is elected. Not useful? Another body under the bus. I saw the Bloomberg article and thought "don't the Obama supporters wish".
You really captured Joe's reaction to Obama beautifully. Like the pharaoh, Obama was using his prey to meet his own agenda. The contract haas an undisclosed surprise ending, Hopefully, this time there is an exit.
Thanks John

Mr. Kass appears to prefer the "Trickle Down" economics theory practiced by Reagan, Bush and now offered in its same failed, stale state by McCain. W's dad, Bush I, called it Voodoo economics and so it is. This is the Reverse Robin Hood approach, spreading the wealth from the poor to the rich. Taking money from working families and giving it investment banks - we have to conclude that that is "good socialism". Thank you for your clarification Mr. Kass, we see where you stand. We can only presume that your income is above $250,000 per year.

You forgot the biggest mistake of all. Joe was a Republican plant. Plain and simple. He is not or was "an undecided voter." He is not or was in any position to buy his employers business. He isn't even a registered voter. Joe symbolizes politics in America, blah blah blah, lies, lies, lies.
But O1bama invited himself to the party? If there are so many Republican "plants" that Obama can't help but run into one, then maybe he isn't representing the majority of America.

Lets face it America is already socialist lite; even Bush realizes that the free market will not be saved without governemt intervention.

The sad thing about many people like our plumber friend is that they forget our taxes fund everything from schools for our children to body armor for our soldiers. Fortunately for most of these folks, including Joe, they do not belong to the socio-economic class that will have to worry about higher taxes regardless of who is elected.

joe is an adult and got himself into this mess with is big mouth and unprocessed ideas. the author's point of view is so off base, maybe he should start a water damage recovery business and get out of the think and write business-there are shure to be lots of leaks if "joe the plumber" is on the job.

This column is just ridiculous. Nobody told Sam to approach Obama in order to set up a "Gotcha" moment. So too bad, if he was so stupid not to know what kinda of information could be found out about him a just a short time.
"People in glasshouses should not throw stones."
"Or also" ..... don't be surprised, that when you kick somebody, you might get kicked back.
He told Obama he wouldn' t get a tax raise based on an income he really didn't have and then had to admit he would get tax cut. People here complaining about "wealth distribution" being communist when Obama's plan would have CUT HIS TAXES.
It's always the people pretending to have money that support the tax cuts for the rich. "When I win the lottery, I don' t want to pay that tax." Sheeeesh.

It is sad, just asking about Obamas plan regardless if Joe can get there or not, gives the right for Obama followers to grab their pitch forks and sticks of fire digging up Joes finacail woes.

Should people be afraid to even ask Obama to explaine all the numerous donations with names like "addy eddty". or "test person". I liked seeing the tv news shows showing some of the forms that people donated money to him.

How about Obama lead by example and spread some wealth to poor McCains group who can only spend 1/4 the amount Obama is. But then again I guess Obamas money is his, and the taxpayers' money will be belong to everyone else.
