A teacher can't have a web page on FaceBook about his/her private live but a school principal can strangle people on his.

The union quote is laughable considering that teacher that left was a bully to everyone. 3 of the 4 grievances were filed by her.

That is why I will never join the union- they distort the truth.

This man's wife should not be living in the home with him. If these medical issues are true - he needs to be removed from the home & placed in a hospital for observation. Also, he should not be a principal of any school until this situation is resolved. There is something drastically wrong here. Come on, Broward County School Board - do an investigation.

LOL!! Great post!! I understand that it is a medical condition, but if I were his wife, I would sleep with a knife. If I were his hun, I would sleep with a gun. All kidding aside, I hope that he can work through this issue, but I do feel for his family, of course, especially his wife. If I were her, I would be in fair of my life with this guy. What is to stop him when he goes into one of his "fits". If this doesn't get resolved, I think we will watch it on CBS's 48 Hours Mystery.

Here is wiki-

Rapid eye movement sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) is a sleep disorder (more specifically a parasomnia) that involves abnormal behavior during the sleep phase with rapid eye movements (REM sleep). It was first described in 1986.

The major and arguably only abnormal feature of RBD is loss of muscle atonia (paralysis) during otherwise intact REM sleep. This is the stage of sleep in which most vivid dreaming occurs. The loss of motor inhibition leads to a wide spectrum of behavioural release during sleep. This extends from simple limb twitches to more complex integrated movements where sufferers appear to be unconsciously acting out their dreams. These behaviours can be violent in nature and in some cases will result in injury to either the patient or their bed partner.

wow your sad. btw i go to falcon & ive always hated you, and this is a great reason why. I feel sorry for the wife. and I think it's hilarious how the cops and the law ppl blame it on his sleeping disorders, when he still has the right mind to control it and know what the hell hes doing. Control yourself mr.kaplan! and I strongly beleive that be shouldn't be a teacher anymore cuz the next time it can be a student your chocking

This idiot should be fired asap. His wife is probably terrified of him. If the school board leaves him in place and he harms someone in that school they'll have holy hell to pay.

Who knows whether it's true or not, but RIGHT NOW...TOMORROW...the school board should put him on administrative leave with pay until this has been investigated further. I encourage all taxpayers to call their board member TOMORROW.

Anyone know if the 6 or so SWAT-officers from the bus loop to the front door Monday after school have anything to do with this?(My kid was pretty wide-eyed about it.)

One more thing...

The red flag in these articles (Herald, too) is that if this has been going on for a year and a half, wouldn't you be sleeping in a locked room and wouldn't you have locks on your kids' doors as well? Just so you wouldn't show up to work the next day with a black eye, not just to avoid being murdered?

I used to work under this arrogant [email protected]@rd at a different school and I can tell you he is an arrogant jerk. If a regular teacher had been arrested for choking his or her wife do you think they would still have a job? But, no, since it's Mark Kaplan of Falcon Cove MS, he gets to keep his job without even so much as a mark on his record. He needs to be fired and he needs to be in jail. Knowing him as I do, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if he was drunk and beats up his wife regularly. Like I said, according to the school district there are two sets of rules, one for regular teachers and one for favored, pampered administrators.

He was an amayzing to all of his students.
if you don't know him. Don't talk about him.
he would never do that. My mother was friends with his wife. No problems of anykind was bothering the family. You shouldn't be put in jail because of something you can't control. if your not awake you have no idea what your doing.
His wife even said she is not pressing charges.
leave the guy alone.
