Is there a difference between the brands of Keratin. Keratin by Coppola (something like that) and also Paul Brown has a Keratin treatment. Does anyone have any experience with the differences between the Keratin brands?

I just had the Keratin Complex by Coppola treatment done Thursday, and tomorrow afternoon I get to wash my hair! WOOHOO - I can come out of seclusion! I was curious about one thing though - I've done everything right - I'm sleeping on my slippery satin pillowcase, hitting my hair with a blow drier in the morning to dry out any "moisture that might have accumulated" (quote from Coppola rep - haha), and running over it with my flat iron to get rid of any bumps that might have occurred during the night, or areas where my hair turned out while sleeping. SO, my question is: my hair certainly isn't as stick-straight as it was when I left the salon, simply because I can't flat iron the back with the same finesse - however as a daily flat-iron user I'm able to flat iron it to make it lay flat and straight - maybe with a slight bend/curve in towards my neck. I have noticed a few random flyaways during this period though (probably because I'm so neurotic). If these are flyaways now, will they continue to be flyaways after I wash my hair tomorrow? Is it too late to hit them with the flat iron again to try to get them to sit down? I'm sooooo afraid that I'll wash my hair tomorrow and nothing will have changed... mostly because my husband would probably cut up all my checks and credit cards...hahaha.

I just finished "the wash." OMG - I am sooooo happy with the results! I am a total product addict - I've HAD to be with my hair. I have a LOT of fine hair that tends to frizz, with weak curls throughout. I have never embraced the curl because it's so weak that it falls straight at the root by the end of the day. Daily I put Bumble & Bumble Straight in my hair while wet, along with a squirt of B&B Defrizz. After I washed my hair today I sprayed B&B Tonic in it - and that was IT. My hair dried straight, with a few places turning out towards the ends where my curl begins - but NO FRIZZ! I was going to let it air dry, but I was on a tight schedule so I hit it with a blowdryer on medium (something I've NEVER been able to do because my hair takes SO long to dry normally). My hair was dry within a MINUTE! My hair ended up totally straight with a few pieces that were turning out a bit - again - frizz FREE. I put my flat iron on medium (another thing I've never been able to do unless I wanted to spend HOURS straightening) and hit the three or four places where my hair was turning out - I couldn't believe it - after running over the pieces ONCE with the flat iron they all "sat down" and were in place! I wasn't convinced that the results would last though - so I went into the bathroom where my husband had just finished showering. I just sat in there to watch what the humidity would do to my hair... and it still looks PERFECT! Not a flyaway in sight, no pieces starting to curl... I'm in LOVE! This treatment was WELL worth the price - and it was only $150 at the salon where I always get my hair done. I can't stop touching my hair - it feels so amazing! The only downside: I'm a total Bumble & Bumble addict, and they don't have a sulfate-free shampoo yet! Come on B&B, get with the program! I'm soooo not in love with the smell of the Coppola Keratin shampoo/conditioner, but I'll make the sacrifice for results like this!

I'm intrigued about this new treatment.
I have very curly hair (3b) w/some frizz.
Will this take out all the curl? Or will I have some softer curls/waves?
I really am looking for a treatment in the Boston area that will relax/soften my curl, add tons of shine, remove frizz but not flat out straighten it out.
Any recommendations?

I noticed that people mentioned it works best on 'non-virgin' hair.
Well, I'm as virgin as hair gets I suppose.
My hair has no color, relaxer, I use no silicones, rarely use sulfates in my shampoo, and I trim every 8 weeks. I occassionly use a flat iron or curling iron to style it sometimes.
You'd think I'd have fabulous hair. Well, most people think so, but me.
I just want something to loosen up my curls.
What can I do to loosen these curls?

Hi! Denise Kingsley
I've been reading alot of your commentaries and your very knowledgeable. Can you please answer this question for me? I'm trying to decide which
Keratin complex to use. My hair has a relaxer and hair coloring with 3c to 4a hair type (afro american. I'm currently trying to transition to no more relaxers.Should I use the brazilian or the coppola to make that transition? I would like to have straight and wavy hair when desired.

Actually you can use either one. find the most experienced person possible.
I have many "RELAXER" clients who are having a keratin treatmentdone to grow out the relaxer in preparation for a thermal straightening.
It works quite well. Once you have enough of an outgrowth new hair you can have the Japanese thermal reconditioning done. Your Tr stylist will help you with choosing what degree of curl you may or may not want to leave in the hair.
PLEASE find experience!

If you were my client I would suggest having a Smooth Control process done. This is a permanent process of reducing the curl and eliminating the frizz.
As always, please find the most experienced person possible. One that is experienced in all aspects of straightening hair including, relaxers, Japanese Thermal Reconditioning( hair straightening), Keratin treatments,Caribbean Dream Relaxer,Pravana Keratin Fusion, etc, etc.

I love the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. I use the Marcia teixeira Chocolate treatment. We have great ventilation in my salon and have had no problems with fumes or awful odors. My clients love the treatment. We are in Scottsdale AZ.
This treatment is the Best. bravosalon.net

I had the keratin complex by coppola two months ago. YES IT WORKS!!!!!! I have very long, thick, wavy hair. I have been puting in highlights, etc for years now so with the treatment it really makes your hair much smoother. I say the results are probably different for everyone depending on type of hair, etc. but yes, it does work. I too have a tiny bit of wave left but if I blowdry or use a iron to it, its pin straight! The worst part was waiting sooo long to wash it

I had my hair done 7/30 and went to very humid Mexico 8/5. I didn't blow dry my hair once there and had no frizz the entire week. Coppola says it eliminates 95% of frizz, but thankfully for me, it eliminated 100%!!! I will definitely have the treatment again when this one washes out. So far my favorite shampoo is the Mop C-System smoothing, it smells nice and lathers great too. I didn't like the Pureology or Paves. I still have to try the Mastey and Organix Vanilla Silk.

Hi Natalie,- or anyone who can offer advice. Thanks in advance.
You helped me with advice before I had the Keratin Complex done about a month ago. I have washed my hair about 5 times since then - average once or twice a week and spent about 12 days in England where it's often raining. I would wear a hat when it was raining or sprinkling and only got my hair a little dampened once by the rain. I have also been washing and conditioning with Pureology shampoo and conditioner. I washed it yesterday ad set it in normal (not hot) rollers. Today I woke up with frizzy hair. I'm a little disappointed. Is this what I should expect after a month? Am I doing anything wrong - can it be styling products? Could it be my hair type? And finally - should I have it redone? Thank you for your help.

Be honest please... doesn't the aldehyde that is in the coppola treatment really mean formaldehyde? It is a derivitive, the health risks are the same are they not? And if I am correct, st what point will they tell the truth so we will be told if we should be wearing masks. It burns my eyes, makes me have a hacking cough, and a runny nose. While we were being certified to use this they said it was formaldehyde free and because so many of us at our salon are experiencing the same thing a few of us found out that aldehyde can have the same health risks. Coppola should reinform their educators if this is the case. We have pregnant women and people with compromised health that visit and work in our salon

I got my hair treated with keratin complex the other day and the salon I went to ran out of the keratin shampoo. I am heading over there today after work to get a small spec of it that the salon has left to wash out after my 72 hours are done, but after that, i have to wait a whopping 3 more days for them to receive more shampoo. For the time being, what alternative shampoos that i can buy off the counter at a drugstore can I use?
It is recommended that you use Pureology, because it is salt free and fabulous. If your hair is normally frizzy or tight curled use the one for moisturizing. This will help keep your hair straighter.

Oh wow, that is a fantastic price. I'm paying $250.00 and thought it was a great price. Do you use this salon regularly, or just for the Complex treatment? Also, is that price for long hair? Thanks :)
Can you tell me how many ounces you are getting for the $250 price and the name/location of your salon?

I had my hair done at Nadia's in Manalapan, NJ. I have no idea how many ounces she used, but my hair was covered well enough to work. I love not having to blow dry my hair.

Regarding shampoos, I didn't like the Pureology at all. Mop C-System smoothing shampoo smells and lathers much better and I did just try the Organix Vanilla Silk today, which lathers even better.

Does anyone know if the Nano-Keratin treatment by Research in Beauty contains formaldehyde? Billed as "natural" by my stylist, I had it done yesterday. Not so happy to have just seen the press. I would really appreciate any info.(I can't find anything about formaldehyde in this particular product.)

Well Nicole, you obviously had the QOD Global Keratin Chocolate Treatment in 2% formaldehyde when the percentage is less than 4% it's not required to be posted on the bottle (it comes in 2% & 4% Formaldehyde). At a 2% formaldehyde, although not listed on the bottle it will cause burning and tearing of the eyes. Very uncomfortable. They also have the Strawberry and Mint Ether (Formaldehyde Free).
