Why is Islam so popular around the world? What is it that draws so many to it?

Is part of it what it shares with christianity and Judaism?

Is True Islam more tolerant than practicing Christianity?

so 61% of Oklahomans are ignorant racist rednecks...

and the sky is blue.

BTW, they don't speakie de English in Arabic countries so they don't use the English word when they refer to the supreme deity. In Italy its Deo, in France it's Dieu, in Spain it's Dios. In English-speaking countries it's God (because in Germany it's Gott and we use the German word rather than the Latin word) and in the Middle East it's Allah.

But then Timothy McVeigh did not kill in the name of Christianity. Muslims do. When they do kill in the name of Islam they shout Alu Akbar(sp) god is great....BIG DIFFERENCE.

Personally I don’t believe any of it either way but one is free to believe anyway they believe as long as it does not infringe on my right to exist. Once anyone’s religious belief infringes on the rights of someone else then at that point should be illegal. Ultimately Islam and Christianity present two very different gods who may share some similarities but who have different identities and ultimately different standards. To pretend they are the same is patronizing to both Muslims and Christians.

Such smoothing over the cracks is also dangerous as it might well prevent people from engaging with the real issues, who is the God who is really there and how can one be in relationship with him or simply reject it as nonsense? Sadly some of both feel it is ok to condemn those who do not want to believe the way they do (i.e. RedSonja2000 – post # 4 so 61% of Oklahomans are ignorant racist rednecks...). Some that don’t believe (i.e.: Dustyoutlaw in many other treads) seem to think it is acceptable to condemn and ridicule those that do believe.

Being of either faith and going to a Church/Mosque doesn’t make someone a Christian or Muslim anymore than me going out and standing in the garage will make me a car. It should be to each his own as to whether to believe or not and respected by all to be a private matter and not some public spectacle as both religions and some non-believers try to make it.

I did read it! And I want to mention you are a complete idiot if you believe what you just wrote and suggest you study and see for yourself it is clearly mentioned in the Quran. Wise up!

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called 'hypocrites' and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verses of violence, most of the verses of violence in the Quran are open-ended, meaning that the historical context is not embedded within the surrounding text. They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as relevant or subjective as anything else in the Quran.

Unfortunately, there are very few verses of tolerance and peace to abrogate or even balance out the many that call for nonbelievers to be fought and subdued until they either accept humiliation, convert to Islam, or are killed. This proclivity toward violence and Muhammad's own martial legacy has left a trail of blood and tears across world history.

EXAMPLE:
The Quran:
Quran (2:191-193)- "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."

There is a good case to be made that the textual context of this particular passage is defensive war, even if the historical context was not.

However, there are also two worrisome pieces to this verse. The first is that the killing of others is authorized in the event of "persecution" (a qualification that is ambiguous at best). The second is that fighting may persist until "religion is for Allah." The example set by Muhammad is not reassuring and therefore should be completely outlawed in this country on the grounds it infringes on the rights and freedom of belief afforded everyone in this country. Make of it what you will! That is the freedom we are all afforded!

The KKK killed in the name of Christianity.

McVeigh was killing more like in the name of god rendering the ultimate justice to humankind.

And all of them were idiots spewing their hatred, which doesn’t make it right! It just makes them a killing idiot like anyone else who kills in the name of any religion! How does either religion have any right to infringe on the rights of anyone too believe or not believe?
NONE!

The KKK presented itself as a christian org defending the white race. They were more racist than theological.

They wore white bedsheet burkas and did what was called night riding, attacking those who promoted integration and placing bombs under cover of night.

They hired special men to do the wet work so they could officially keep their sheets clean.

Sharia law has less to do with actual "religion" but is used more as a means to subjugate women and any opposition to islam by a bunch of religious fanatical old men.
