I find the article regarding the Safeway store very disappointing. I just recently sold my home in Southern Utah to relocate to Walsenburg, where I just purchased some land west of Lathrop State Park. I am very excited to move there this fall...but find it very unfortunate that I will now have to travel to Colo. City or Trinidad to buy groceries! Mark my word...if they are not keeping this store clean, and putting food on the floor like the article says...someone is bound to become very sick. Very sad indeed.

Has anyone ever considered why it is that Safeway in Walsenburg makes so much money?? Hum. Could it be because they purchase from Corporate the items that are about to expire, and get them cheap, then sell them to us for their "high price"? Have you noticed how when you buy things from WalMart, like milk/dairy products, you have a month or more before expiration, and at Safeway you have a day or two?! Another word of caution. Don't buy the refrigerated soups. Safeway won't pull them after they expire because they can't decide whose job it is to pull them. I've seen their chicken fiesta and the crab soup containers still the refrigerated section for sale when they had expired a month prior! Have you ever had crab soup that should've been eaten a month before? Would you like to die of food poisoning?? It's a pain to travel to shop elsewhere, but it's worth it. You'll even save money because the gas won't cost as much as your savings... since Safeway's markup is horrendous.

Really? I think that the Walsenburg Safeway is quite nice for a small town store. I admit I miss the organic produce, bulk and natural foods section, and sushi found at Safeways in the more metro areas, but there just isn't enough interest in this part of the state to support such luxuries. I do occasionally complain about the lack of "specialty" items like Chinese-style mustard and meatless pizzas other than plain cheese, but overall the store is always neat, the produce relatively fresh, the refrigerated and frozen goods cold, and the prices reasonable for a community in which a store can't sell the volume it would in a larger town. There is even a small freezer section with natural/organic brands like Amy's and Morningstar Farms. For Walsenburg, I'm pretty impressed with this. I've only been here since October 2007, several months after this article was written so perhaps drastic improvements have been made since then. Either way, don't be scared off by this article. Visit the store and judge for yourself.

Safeway should fire everone there and build a new store and employ people that can do the job and do it right. They need to put food out that will last more then two or less days. What they really need is for all the big shots come here and eat some of the food they want us to eat.

OK, so evidently, everybody shops there, complains to each other and on the web and doesn't do anything more about it. This Safeway store is still a part of the corporation and if you look at your receipt tape, there is an 800# on the bottom of it. They also have comment cards...stop being lazy and fill one out. The cards are the slow way of doing it, the 800# is faster, but either one, you will get a response back.

You call that 800#, your comments are recorded by the folks at corporate. Once a complain comes in, its processed into a database and a copy of your complaint is sent "word for word" to the store manager, the regional manager, the division manager, etc.... Whatever the complaint is about, they have a week to get it fixed before all these managers (besides the store manager) come in and inspect to see whats going on. So, if the store is truely as you say it is, your not helping by not letting HQ know. Safeway corp actually listens to their customers, but i guess their customers have to be able to speak first....

That's always been a problem down there anyway....nobody wants to confront the people that actually have the power to do something about it, all they want to do is p!$$ and moan and talk poorly about whatever it is this week. Make your voice count or go back inside until you're ready to make your voice count. You will never change anything unless you direct your comments to someone who can actually do something about it.

Don't try to tell me that you've already tried the 800# or the comment card and didn't get a response. That NEVER happens...Ever!

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Taurus

Try to keep your energy a little bit more under control. If you scatter in all directions, you'll end up hot and bothered. Mars tends to rev up your engine, but an awkward aspect to Saturn will make everything go in stops and starts. As soon as you try to shift into higher gear you meet immovable objects at the moment, so the solution is to slow down. There are wonderful, uplifting influences hanging around as well as tricky ones, so just hang in there.
