Oh my goodness! All those chemicals have been around for years. Lewis is a small county with a stagnant population growth. Within the last year, the Watertown Times published an article concerning the future of northern New York. It found that our population will be aging and dwindling as our young people leave for greater opportunities. We will be left with a much greater need of social services that are expensive for the remaining taxpayers. Additionally, we face the prospect of a smaller Fort Drum due to budget cuts that will be ABSOLUTELY necessary to keep this nation from financial default. It is high time that we learn our limtations. We cannot continue to do everythng for everybody! We simply cannot afford to be spending tons of money for a "what if" hazmat scenario.
