I'm sure somebody said that about the National Road, Erie Canal, the Transcontinental Telegraph, Transcontinental Railroad, Panama Canal, Brooklyn Bridge, and Golden Gate Bridge too, just to name a few "overly ambitious" American projects. When it comes to building things, Americans have never been conservative. No reason to start now.
