Army sergeant is tired of living 2 lives under 'Don't ask, don't tell'

There are 285 comments on the www.syracuse.com story from Jan 10, 2010, titled Army sergeant is tired of living 2 lives under 'Don't ask, don't tell'. In it, www.syracuse.com reports that:

Chuck Iavarone was 19 when he decided to start living his life as an openly gay man. He came out after he graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse High School. He started college, but left after the Sept. 11 attacks to join the U.S. Army Reserve.

He went to basic training. And stepped back into the closet.

For the past eight years, Iavarone has lived a dual life. Openly gay at home. Straight in the Army.

Yep, reminds me of some of the "bad asses" that I ran into in my days as a soldier.
One of the first ones I ever ran into was in my ex-husband's unit. They used to call him Napoleon because of his size and attitude.
Obviously......just a Drill Sargent.......Lt Colonels don't drill the troops.

Oh and probably just a weekend warrior.......with little d!ck syndrome........lol:)

That's what an idiot gets when they try to talk soldier to a military brat. I've had many years of talks with a father who is an E9 (the highest rank an enlisted soldier can be). Too much practice actually-he drives me crazy!
As I recall, while flag officers (Generals) advise god on policy matters, E-9's dictate policy to god!

You're just another pathetic little man afraid of the mean old queers, who somehow manages find the balls you otherwise lack in the anonymity provided by the internet. It's the raving irrationality of bigots like you that will eventually win our cause for us. As more and more people realize just how weak a mind it really takes to be in opposition to equal treatment for Lesbians and Gays in the military or any other sector of life, the more they will look at fools like you in righteous disgust and apologize for ever having stood in our way with wastes of humanity like you. So why don't you go do some more pretend drilling with your army of make believe or go do your homework, as I'm pretty sure you do have school tomorrow.
If we allow open homosexuality in the military, what happens to straight guys in prison will happen to straights in the military.
In prison, if a group of homosexuals sees a good-looking straight guy, they will pressure him into having sex and/or will gang-rape him.
I see the same thing happening in the military. As soon as the opportunity presents itself where a lone straight soldier finds himself within a group of gay soldiers, they will pressure him into sex or will gang-rape him.
I don't want to see this happen to a good soldier. Its bad enough it happens in prison.

LOL,You are living on fantasy island you moron! Gays are already serving and have been since the dawn of our military! The post you just made is laughable and it's hard to understand just how a mature adult could believe in such nonsense! 25 of 28 countries afiliated with NATO have integrated militaries! Israel with maybe the best military in the world has been integrated for over 15 years now and have had NO problems doing so! And neither have any of the other countries with integrated militaries! So go back to the drawing board as your statment is total B.S.! And by the way, the phrase is Dont ask, don't tell, and what they always leave off, DON'T pursue! The last part the military has broken their word on so it's time to scrap the DaDtDp policy as it's time has come and gone!

So full of crap..........this is not the same situation.
Oh and rape is still a crime.
Prison is a confinement.......the Military isn't......besides......the guys who are raping men in prison are typically HETEROSEXUAL.......not HOMOSEXUAL.

DADT does serve a purpose..

Tell me please... Those who support Ditching this.. WHAT GOOD would come of it? In re: to military service? How would being "OUT" help you? Gays join the military knowing about the DADT law. And then complain about it..

Why not Stop enlisting?

Im told often "if you don't like the show, switch the channel" well i think the same applies to service. If you know the rule is DADT and that bothers you, then don't enlist.

I have nothing.. NOTHING against any one wanting to serve our Country and its people, Be it a Straight man, Gay man, or what ever man heck ya could be a dog with purple squid arms for all i care. But I think the bottom line is, Serving your country is a CHOICE, and that choice means you giving up some of your Civilian thoughts and desires.

Does anyone else think Military "Man" should show a little more discretion when posting on gay message boards?

It's not like there's a cyber trail of where he's been or anything. And that said trail could be used him in any military discharge proceedings. Ones pursuant to a DADT discharge.

Have to say here is where I would disagree. It does not cause any one to lie. A persons Sexual Lifestyle is not a required part of information needed to serve this country.
Dont Ask Dont tell, does what it says.. they Dont ask, and you Dont tell.

All soldiers regardless of how they were born are risking life and limb for our country and deserve our respect. Unfortunately non-gay soldiers have an irrational machismo that makes them think all gay men what to have sex with them. I think some education on homophobia during boot camp would help.

Really? Ask Lt. Dan Choi about what he learned at West Point and why with all of his specialty training he is being discharged.

Ask any of the Service members who have been discharged so far alone this year, what they have done to deserve the treatment they have received even with the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy in place?

1) Dan Choi Signed on knowing full well the DADT rules. He agreed to abide by them when he signed on.

2) Dan Choi Violated those rules (Which he agreed to abide by) on more then 2 occasions.
Once on On March 19, 2009,When he announced that he was gay on The Rachel Maddow Show and once prior to that (that we know of) when he informed his subordinates of his Sexual Orientation.

Now Dan and Friends can continue to cry "I got fired because I was being too honest," but the simple truth is, Dan was fired for his breach of contract. He, knowing the rules when he joined, turned his back on those rules and thus lost his credibility as an honest man. He is a dishonest (didnt follow through with what he agreed to)

Curious.. and what of all those who are "former" homosexuals? those who travel the us and world telling others they can walk away from that life? People can Change their sexual orientation and often do.

Have you ever asked yourself why you have such vivid homoerotic fantasies? Sorry, but your paranoid borderline wet dreams do not make for a rational argument against allowing Lesbians and Gays to serve openly in the military.
