for these Emmetsburg citizens to claim they will "lose gamblers to the Fort Dodge casino" maybe you should look up the defintion of "competition"! Or are you afraid your casino won't match up to theirs?

Only in the simple interest of providing some low paying jobs do I support any casino to be built, otherwise I think our state is full enough of them.

Fort Dodge casino referendum barely passed, even though only a small minority of voters even voted during the special election. Now the city pays employees to attend. Who paid for the bus to bring supporters down to the meeting? Would have been nice to know that in the story. Fort Dodge is less than two hours from at least 4 casinos. How is that for market saturation? Yet some think 350 jobs averaging $15 per hour is gonna be great. How much money does the top 25 managers have to make to make 325 minimum wage jobs average $15 per hour? It is just a bad idea. To bad our elected leaders, who all claimed to have a vision for Webster County and Fort Dodge have to go "all in" on a casino. By definition, all in means you have nothing to loose. I guess you have no vision at all beyond a casino. I beg all elected officials who are "all in" in Webster County to resign so people with vision can take over.

To the Iowa Gaming Commission, When there was a vote to determine whether Fort Dodge and Webster County wanted gambling in their community, the MAJORITY said yes. Then motivated citizens within the community secured financing, designs, etc. The plan seems to be pretty solid. There is absolutely no reason that you should reject this bid. it is not your job to be the kingpin and decide what communities get the benefit, it is your job to sift through the proposals and make sure the plans are 100% feasible. If you are to reject this bid it is a slap in the face to so many people in Webster County. As for those in Emmetsburg, when they originally applied THEY said a casino both there and in Webster County would be feasible. Even besides that point, who are they to say that they deserve the benefits of a casino exclusively? Who are they to say Fort Dodge shouldn't benefit from a casino because they believe they are the entitled ones? If their casino cannot compete with one almost 70 miles away, maybe they shouldn't be in the business anyways. It is so selfish for them to say this casino has benefited us so much but we don't think anyone else should benefit because we wouldn't get as big of a reward. As someone who lived in Fort Dodge but left because the lack of opportunity there, this debate really hits home to me. Its not just about gambling but it is attracting conventions and other tourism to Webster County. The outdoor event center would also add so much to that community. You have the opportunity to really help a struggling community. It really says something about how much people care about this issue that so many took time out of their life to both show their support at the rally in Fort Dodge and the hearing today. Fort Dodge needs this, the project is sound, you need to grant them this opportunity.
