Sure wish the Messenger would say a little more about the Commission's concerns that the "Sheriff's Department often failed to follow its own general orders, policies and procedures." Frankly I'm surprised they even put that much in.

So Ruby is fired for "acts of insubordination and one violation for discourteous treatment of a fellow employee." It comes down to "Ruby hurt my feelings." A far cry from the 25 trumped up charges originally cooked up by Mickelson and O'Brien, but apparently enough to do the trick!

Yet others will stay on the Department despite gross incompetence and putting the public in danger.

Nothing political about that... What a crock!

I was wondering why the commisions feels that a sheriff has the right to discriminate against employees without any sort of repercusion? Is this the standard pratice for a sheriff's department or for the commision? Isn't the sheriff's department and the commision suppose to ensure justice for all? I'm confused how the commision came up with their decision. I thought the hearing was about how the sheriff's department broke their own procedures and couldn't fire Ruby for it. How the commision came up with, it was not politicaly motivated and so Ruby should still be fired is beyond me. I don't think the commision even looked at the evidence surrounding the sheriff's department and the harassemnt and discrimination Ruby had to deal with, not to mention they violated his civil rights.
