Why do we still have black beauty contest?

I'm writing about the two articles in the paper on Feb. 19. I thought we were all supposed to be as one, and no more of all the racial issues.

I totally agree with you! I am so tired of all the focus being placed on heritage months and people quiver the moment you flip the script and propose the idea of a white history month or a white specific anything. I for one do not want to hear about any of it, but if I have to celebrate every other race, I would like to see the celebration of the white american. I think we need to be proud take a stand and make noise. Where are my civil right activist, Oh yeah there not there because we would hurt someones feeling....such B.S.

I propose we host a White Miss Clarksville Pageant, start a white entertainment television, white history month, etc. See how fast they start crying racism. In reality, it seems as though black people want their cake and eat it too.

And on another note...why do we have another white person being fired for saying a word that black people use to refer to themselves? Can anyone say HYPOCRITE?

I find it hilarious that blacks refer to themselves as AFRICAN AMERICAN (which is laughable since 90% of blacks are not african, never been to africa, and can not even claim african heritage.

Oh, please, I was watching a beauty pagent the other day and ALL of the ladies were white. You might as well call it the White Beauty Pagent. Also, there is a beauty pagent for Latin ladies as well as Asian women. You argument makes not sense. Hello, whites are the majority in the US; you don't need White this or that. Use your brain and think about it.

AS for black contest and all I'm not against it because it's a inspiration for young black children to look up to people like Barack obama, martin luther king, Oprah and etc, to show that they can be who ever they want but more importantly to show that they matter as a race,(that a little black girl can find somebody like her and know she's pretty even though white people think otherwise or a black boy can look up to someone like barack and know that they don't have to always look up to athletes, entertainers, drug dealers and etc to be somebody), thats why these so called CONTEST YOU CONSITER HORRIBLE IS BEAUTIFUL TO US.

So black women can feel an artificial sense of accomplishment because no matter who wins the contest it will be a black woman, and after all, that is the most important reason these type of things exist. To artificially creat black "winners" where they would not exist in a fair contest not based on the color of the contestant's skin.

Perhaps because no black women applied? Face it, in BMA, does that really sound like it is open to white gals? However, the Miss America Pageantisopen to ALL American women. Not just one color, unlike BLACK Miss America, Miss Clarksville, etc. So try again.

So in other words you would be fine if we made sports segregated again so white children could have sports heroes that looked like them for a change?(considering the damage that has been done to most white people's self esteem for sports like football, track and basketball, which decreases the number of whites who want to participate in the sport and makes it impossible for whites to be competitive in those sports now)

You also must be fine with us having white only organizations considering multicultural orgs specifically exclude whites and you all have organizations that already represent you.

You all truly have no clue how little the average white person has going for them compared to their non white counterparts in the same social and financial status.

I respect the opinions of others. However, as a previous contestant in both only African American and multicultural beauty pageants, my opinion is that I think that having a pageant for African American women is a good idea. It celebrates the accomplishments of African American women, who were at one time not considered to be beautiful simply because of the color of their skin. The reason why there are pageants specifically for minorities is because THEY ARE MINORITIES!!!!!!! Look the word up in the dictionary...Caucasian Americans are the majority in the country so why would they have their own specific beauty pageant? Pageants that are for minorities are not to diminish other pageants, but to help women that are part of that ethnic group to feel beautiful and accomplished, where as they may not get that same opportunity or "celebrate" their ethnic identity in a multicultural pageant. Therefore, I see nothing wrong with pageants who have only African American, Latina or Asian women. Yes America is a melting pot of ethnicities, but there is nothing wrong celebrating different cultures either.

What would people think if there were a white Miss Clarksville? Well, I don't believe it would go over very well.

It should just be a Miss Clarksville, not a black or white. How can people label this and not call it racial?

Then, the other article in the paper with a Mr. Terry McMoore about the economic recovery for blacks. What in the world is that suppose to mean — for blacks?

I thought the recovery was for all Americans, not black or white. So what he's saying is that all he's worried about is the black community. Well, I thought we were all the community of Clarksville?

I believe that if there was a letter in the paper that said let's get together and figure out what we can do for the white community that Mr. Terry McMoore would be the first to scream racial, so tell me does this mean that he is racial? I believe that all the labeling should stop once and for all no more Miss Black or Miss White, just as one.

Becuz Black women are not represented the way they should be. I'm glad they have a pagent that just focuses on them becuz me being a BM I know that BW deserve it.
