Bad time of the year to start. Generally, in serving, the colder it is outside the more money you will make. So you're ballin thru the winter but starving during the summer. If u need quick cash go stomach 3 months telemarketing then go get a restaurant job in aug/sept.

Minimum wage is 2.13. If you are a good server you can make money anywhere.

It really depends. I'm a server and most places that are busy are busy because they're inexpensive. The expensive places are slower but you'll have bigger checks and thus bigger tips. However places like that will generally not hire first time servers. Therefore, I suggest trying some busy corporate restaurant getting a lot of mediocre tips if you're a first time server. Unless you're by some odd chance a really hot chick... Then there's always hooters/showmes.

I make good money as a server, more than anywhere I have worked. I make anywhere from 5 to 6 hundred a wk depending on business. My place is the opposite of busy in winter tho, we have a patio area and a huge beer selection, great established non corporate place. I love it! I do not suggest corporate, I worked in a popular corporate resturant while busy and good money, u always have some a$$hole breathing down ur neck when not necessary. If ur a good server u shouldn't need a babysitter.

Good luck making any money in a town like Evansville. Ignorant hicks have no clue how to tip. I remember I made $100 one night. I was amazed. Usually count on making $40-$60 a night. Don't become a server. The restaurant industry is an awful racket. Slave wages, and treated like s##t at every turn. If you like being talked down to every day, you might like it.

Servers that make 100 a day have to work both lunch and dinner. Also, you have to get in with the manager who makes the sections out.

hacienda sucks! I work at a resturant on Franklin St. They are very selective of their servers and expect the very best of quality and service. Our servers make great money, we work long nights because of our beer selection and atmosphere but our wages well compensate. We do not have to lower our selves or ever result in being a " piece of meat" find a respectable place to serve with a reputation and u will do well!!

I am a server & have been for 12years. I've worked many places & everywhere is different. You can make over $100 in a single 5 hour shift if you have good people skills & it helps alot if u know the menu thoroughly. Always stay positive & remember the people you serve are paying your bills....

Lol ok the person that seems to work at Gerst is extremely jaded. I work at a "corporate restaurant" and I made 600. Last weekend. And I work at a place that's only open at night. So ya. You can make good money serving, especially since you don't necessarily have to claim all of it in your taxes. I've had thousand dollar weeks. I've also had 400 dollar weeks. It's hit or miss. Just depends in what you need to pay for... Hence why servers are mostly younger people or people with few-0 dependents. Still a lot of places won't hire first time servers, which it seems like the person who started this thread is. You may have to start as a host and move up. If it helps. I know olive gardens hiring. And it's not awful money. So start there

lol well to u I may seem jaded, but never fake. As u stated depends on what u need to pay for? I give the same service whether or not I have something to pay for or not which is probably why I always have 1000 dollar weekends. I have dependents and are necessarily young, but far from old. As I stated corporate sucks!

You are bad at context clues and reading lol. I said its a good job for people who don't have dependents. Not you make more if you're younger and don't have kids and stuff to pay for. And I call insane bs that you make a grand ever weekend. If that were the case EVERYONE would serve lol. I've had the occasional thousand dollar week, but if you're making a grand every weekend you're either awful at math or a giant liar lol. But ya... The person who started this thread is getting no help from you. I tried but the only person replying is you with your blatant lies and your hating corporate restaurants lol. Have fun with your giant piles of cash and your gold played bentleys moneybags lol

Don't listen to these idiots. NO WAY does anyone make $1000 on a single weekend serving at ANY corporate place. You guys are liars. Don't listen to them. They are prob corporate company men trying to recruit you into a world of shit. Count on about $60 a night. I've worked at several corporate restaurants all over the country and if you are lucky you can pull in $500 a week working 30-40 hours. If you REALLY want to get into serving, go with non-corporate, local places. If restaurants could legally treat their employees worse...the would. All of them. take if from me. 20 years doing this crap.

i seem to recall u saying u made a grand in the weekend! And I read perfectly clear!! U said depending on what u needed to pay for! And I was stating that I do have dependents and still a good job for me!! Only reason it wouldnt be for someone who has dependents is if u cant bring ur a$$ home after ur late shift. I call bullshit that u make a 1000 dollar weekend in ur corporate bullshit job! I seem to think also u have just as many comments as I. Why u commenting on mine anyway? I was stating from my experience! Didnt nobody rattle ur chain! Go memorize ur I Care card and serve ur Lynchburg lemonade and get out my bizzznessss lmao

I agree! Mine wasn't suppose to say 1000 dollar weekend, I have had 1000 dollar weeks, and can make we'll over 60 a night. 60 is actually slow, but I do not and will not work for corporate.

Having spent years in the industry myself, I agree with the guy that said 500 a week. And that's if you're there grinding it out all weekend. It sucks, don't do it, go to college. The only good thing about restaurants is the drama, because that shit is pretty entertaining. Please don't listen to these 1000/wk people, they are retarded, as evidenced by their posts.

no way anyone makes a 1000 a weekend, 1000 a wk Maybe possible depending on business. I made 600 last week and that was closing fri and sat night. 8 hr shifts. That's a lot of hours in serving, come home exhausted. I would rather do it than work 40 hrs and have Uncle Sam take most of a check though. It's taking the good with the bad. And not just for people with no dependents. You can actually work less hours and make more money, thus more time for family

Oh. I don't make 1000 a week. I have had 1000 weeks. It's not a common occurs nice but it's happened a handful of times. And my place is only open at night. We just have great clientele and our menu is expensive and honestly... Those 1000 weeks... I mostly got lucky. I average around 700 a week. But I close almost every shift. I'm not sure what other severs at other places make but I'd say 500 is a fair estimate
