New details in Katlyn Long investigation - Ft. Bragg Advocate-News

After a year of protecting details that might damage a potential court case, Sheriff's officials have released a great deal of new information about the death of Katlyn Long, 22, of Fort Bragg, on May 29, 2008.

Each of us as voters must follow which cases are given priority by the D.A.s office. I would like to see suspects who are a past and present danger to others given full attention. Obviously MCSO and Advocate are going to keep Katlyn's case in the public eye with releases and articles. We can all wear our shirts in town and circulate the latest information. It is up to the D.A. to take action. Write to her.

I realy think that everyone needs to stop n think about garrets loss....this is not a case of murder, its the case of a woman with obvious isuse....if u knew her, then u would know that she had problems, and a dark side so to speak.....none of u even know the real facts, that i know....so how can u base your feelings n such on hear say, n the press, that never gets thangs straight....do any of u even know garret matson??? Do yall know how close they realy were? or how bad hes hurting.....that was his queen...you think u r all moarning... this man has had no chance to at all... cuz all of you pointing fingers are stoping that from happening....u r all guilty yourselfs for your ignorance , and the fact that u, threw media and in person, r killing this man.....ive know this man for 25 years and he hasnt shown nothing but, love,loyalty,n passion for the people in his life....the life he had before....well u know who...including yourselfs,esp. her parents,took that from him......i could go on for hours about this, but abviously u all(n u know who u r) r single minded people....who will never open your eyes .....ps....mr. matson has never refused anythang...except the hate in all of u!

Has anyone even considered what the story is with this other boyfriend from out of state. Does anyone know where she got the Methadone? The only time that Garett has had an anger issue is when he is hurt and wronged, which has happened twice by woman. When all he does is try and fix things and get back together. This is due to his loving, caring and giving heart. Nothing supports the allegations that he is guilty except the rumers and assumptions that the public are making. What else would be expected after a 5 yr relationship that ended one sided. Garett is no stranger to the legal system and knows that an attorney backing him is the best way. So noone should convict him just because he didn't want to cooperate with the MCSO which is screwed up in its own way. There is nothing wrong with people supporting the innocent who is being wrongly and prematurely convicted.

Now I know why I moved away from Ft. Bragg. For a town that is made up of liberals whose motto is peace, love and 420 is harmless, you sure want this guy to hang before he gets charged. Please tell me what the harm is in letting the Courts decide who is to blame for this horrible act. As someone who has lost a love one to suicide, I understand the pain and feel the hurt. I too wanted answers. If this turns out to be a suicide the questions that you have may never be answered. The fact is the truth may not be the answer that all of you who wish Mr. Matson ill may like. However, the best and fastest way to find that truth is to let the MCSO and District Attorney do their jobs.. And PLEASE REMEMBER "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY". If the Courts find Mr. Matson Guilty as charged, I will stand next to all who demand the harshest punishment..

Katlyn Long's family supports the MCSO 100%. Our father was a lawyer for the public interest in the Bureau of Customs. We grew up believing in the laws of this land. We just know much, much more about the facts of this case then the press has released. Of course we relish law enforcement doing their jobs, it will be how justice is served! Until you go through what we have gone through, you have no inkling of the strength it takes in waiting for justice in this case. Did you read the release at all? They don't do that unless they feel very, very strongly about their case. So PLEASE.......

According to paper they broke up, she hooked up with another dude 4 weeks later. Visited the new boyfriend out of town. She got back to FB and still allowed the ex to stay the night with her! WTF... I remember 20 years ago, a woman would get raped and people would say things like, well she was wearing a short skirt, she asked for it. She dyes her hair blonde and wears blue eyeshadow, strumpet! IF, and I say IF, this young girl experimented with partying as many do in school, that is no reason for her to wind up overdosed as she starts a new life years later. Thank you Bako for keeping up on the story. I'm sorry if a lot of my anger was directed towards you. You are not the person that I am angry with. It hurts when people start talking about what a terrible person Katlyn was and how wonderful Garett is. According to his history he has never been a wonderful person so for people to say what a stand up guy he is is a bunch of crap. This stupid blog is the only way I do get any of my anger out and that hasn't really ever been a good thing.

To everyone out there, Katlyn was a dear, sweet girl. She was young when she met Garrett and nieve. He was her first relationship and didnt realize how much she was being controled and manipulated. She finaly realized it. Left him and started dating a boy she has been friends with since high school. Someone who only wanted her to be herself. To him she was perfect just as she was. Katlyn felt bad for hurting Garret, but she didnt love him anymore. She thought she could be his friend and maybe it would ease the pain of the breakup for him. That is the ONLY reason she let him come over to talk. She didnt think he would hurt her with her parents home.
