Thank-you FBA for following up on this story. It is time the truth comes out. FYI-The person of interest is wanted for questioning but he won't talk.

Sheriff's officials reported in April that they wanted to speak with the "person of interest," but that his attorneys were requesting more time before allowing him to make a statement.

Isn't this the same as wanting to question a person?
Next statement:
However, officials typically will not release the names of involved person unless an arrest is made, a warrant has been issued, or if a person is wanted for questioning.

It is really unfortunate that Kaytlyns Murder took place in the small town of Fort Bragg. Anywhere else she would be finding her Justice. We all miss you honey and will make sure that the person responsible is punished!
I have to disagree with you on this my son was murdered in the small town of Willits his murderer was convicted sentenced and in prison within 10 months 40 to life + 8. I have met moms all over the United States and so many are going through similar situations. The murderer of my friends daughter who threw her into a ravine and left her to die is going to be offered a deal of involuntary manslaughter. Max sentence in Ca.4 years that is not justice that is injustice. We need to be fighting for harsher sentencing, a message needs to be sent loud and clear that we are not going to put up with this anymore!

Wow 700 marijuana arrests in the year since Katlyn was murdered and they are still stalling on this one? chalk it up with the rest of the "unsolved" cold cases the clowns in local law enforcement have no interest in solving.
These clowns in Law Enforcement are who you call when you get robbed or ripped off. Quit wasting there time and get a real job,.

If there was any question as to the cause of death being suspicious, why was there no autopsy performed? It seems like this should have been automatic and may have answered a lot of questions.

A year has gone by since Kaitlyn Long's death "under suspicious circumstances and still no answer to what was the cause of death. Since then we've heard nothing but excuses from both the Sgt. Van Patten and the D.A.'s office as to why this case has not moved forward. First they were as the "mercy of the forensic pathologist". Now they don't want to jeopardize the investigation. Would releasing the cause of death REALLY do that? After a year they have yet to interview the person who was with Kaitlyn the night of her death because some lawyers who claim not to represent the person have delayed the interview. Is it because someone from the law office that does not represent the person of interest wrote an UNSIGNED letter? This causes Sgt. Van Patten to have more questions? Perhaps he needs to interview the only person who can answer them. This rag we call a newspaper has named, tried, and convicted a person in print of animal cruelty on the hearsay evidence of other interested parties in the case yet refuses to print the name of the only "witness" in the Long murder investigation or ask the hard questions as to why the delay. Is it because the person's family is wealthy or powerful and people are afraid? I look forward to the day when we can get real news and open and unbiased reporting in our local "newspaper"

It's clear by your characterization of Kaitlyn that you didn't know her and your supposition they if he was guilty the police would have arrested him is laughable but sad.

Perhaps Mr Allegre in his wisdom is unaware of the fact that the sheriffs have issued a press release naming the suspect and giving a timeline of events this very afternoon. As for the paper, maybe he has missed the numerous articles about the case. This rag of a person makes a fool of himself online for all to see while Van Patten continues to investigate a very tricky case. That's right, sit on your duff and spout off while the real men do their jobs.

Autopsies are mandatory in cases such as this when there is no history of illness and one was performed in Napa.

Why would you accuse someone of not knowing her while spell her name incorrectly? I am sorry for her family. I am sorry the case has not been solved. It will be solved. Cases take years sometimes and that is sad. Show her family and friends the respect of spelling her name correctly as well as discussing the correct investigative agency. Just for your information, it is a sheriff case, not a police case.

Let's all back off John Allegre. He is a very close friend of Katlyns father and family, and means nothing but the best wishes and prayers for justice to be served for her!
I know the pain is almost too much to bear nearly all the time, but lashing out at others on here who never knew Katlyn or our family of Long's isn't worth our time. It won't bring Katie back to us, and it does no good for out broken hearts. They will all shut their mouths and eat their own foots once the murderer is arrested and the truth comes out.
I love you all. Stay strong!
JUSTICE for our dearest Katlyn!!!

Had I known he was speaking for the family i would not have posted that response only because I dont think the family needs more to deal with. I have been reading about this and waiting for an arrest just like everyone else. I did not know he was speaking for the Long family or that they felt that way about the investigators or the newspaper. I guess you learn something new every day.

I think we are all angry by what impatient wrote. I made the mistake of using Jon Allegre's comment to what impatient said to say what I thought of what impatient said. My angry is with impatient who knows not of what they speak. I think bums made the same error. impatient is the one who posted a hateful post and I hope that person stays away.
