Puthuff never had the time, nor did his staff, to respond to several emails I sent regarding status of a residence in Fort Bragg. Highly unprofessional!

There is so much more to this man than meets the eye. The story is just starting to unfold. There are plenty of reasons why he would be looking for employment elsewhere, such as the truth is coming out, so run away (if you're not actually being forced to leave). Keep in mind the reasons for the lawsuits are because of personnel issues, the same that apply to him. He is very well protected from ANYTHING being said about him. Then he would have a lawsuit against the city.

Great job of investigation, Tony Reed. It's time for those he has hurt to get justice, and it is great to see that someone is standing up for them.

A cross between Tiger Woods and John Edwards. It was going to catch up to him sooner or later.

He doesn't golf--hehe! Don't forget Bill Clinton. Rules do NOT apply to this man, no matter what the city has on him, they turn a blind eye. People do not change, this has been his lifelong pattern. Wake up people! How much are you going to spend on his legal fees/court costs? Why are city employees losing their jobs? Could their salaries be what's paying his expenses? I doubt you worked his "unethical behavior" into the budget, it has to come from somewhere.

I came across this person a couple of years ago. How long has he been hunting a new position? This is not his first.

Not this time, but then again, who knows? The one I am aware of is not staff. He's got quite the track record! He leaves a path of destruction wherever he goes.

Fort Bragg city cops are a joke,being a peace officer is more than just giving out tickets and eating donuts. Some of these cops need to lose weight, how can you expect people to respect you if you don’t respect yourselves.

Actually, we have a very ethical and great group of officers. The paper is clear, this is about the chief, not them. It is obvious you don't know any of them. If you want to attack the people who risk their lives and try to make our community safe in an anonymous forum, join the losers on the AVA site. You'll fit right in.

I agree that some officers in Fb are excellent folks, and then again soem are not.nothign in the world is black or white. But a leader of the team is expected to be a decent person who inspires others. As for your dig at AVA readers as losers,thats another black and white statement that belays a lack of depth or understanding

My depth of understanding goes further than you can imagine. I have close personal friends who were accused of dispicable acts on the front page of the AVA. Their loser 'readers' gossipped the story around town, while the family of the accused people cried and kept their children out of stores that carry it. Finally, when the AVA staff realized how wrong their accusations were, they buried a retraction of the 'story'. Many didn't even see the retraction because the story kept going around, and continues to do so to this day. Mind you, the 'reporter' didn't bother to contact the people they slandered for their side of the 'story' before printing it, nor did they apologize. The slandered people discovered that you can't sue the AVA when they slander you because their assets are hidden in other people's names. What happens when you print stories from anonymous sources as fact? You hurt innocent people and their kids. Anyone who finds unresearched stories based upon the 'testimony' of anonymous people news is a loser. They haven't bothered to retract another completely false 'story' they have recently printed mostly because none of them have any knowlege of how false it is. Those of us in Fort Bragg who have known their victims won't even enter the businesses of their supporters. Victimizing innocent citizens of our town for profit is wrong, and if the people who have been hurt without reason by that rag call its supporters losers that is their right.

See the anonymous letter to the editor in the AVA that details abuses by law enforcement but doesn't name anyone. Whether the person is telling the truth or not, allowing people to make accusations without putting their names behind it is unethical. Next perhaps we can allow people to testify in a court of law anonymously. What is the difference? It is certainly unAmerican. I am more than aware that many people find this sort of slander perfectly acceptable, as long as it is not about their families or loved ones. I just hope it never will be, because no one deserves to have it happen to them, not even people who are short on respect for other humans and their rights.

Curious as to where you ran into him. Manteca? Pismo Beach? I know he applied in at least those 2 cities within the past year or so. How many others? Seems as though he's ready to leave his position in FB as soon as some other city is willing to take him on. He APPEARS to be the ideal candidate ON PAPER, but doubt he could ever make it through a background check. If the city is stupid enough to keep him on, he might as well give up his efforts of looking elsewhere.

There are some very good people on the PD, and should not be judged by the actions of their boss. He obviously has some serious issues!

@John,
You are correct. It does seem Mr. Puthuff has been looking to get out of FB from the moment he put his boots on the ground. He has not shown much loyalty to the city when his side job has been job searches to get out and they date back at least three years.
If the economy was better I'd bet he would be on his way out w/ no prospects.

I'm confused, it seems to me that if he is COSTING THE CITY huge amounts of money (and city workers are being laid off), how does it pay to keep him around? From my understanding, for each violation, it costs the city $25,000. Miele has THREE violations against him--there is $75,000. PLUS if he wins his suit, the city also pays Miele's attorney fees. I believe Miele is just the tip of the iceberg. How many others will come forward now? Send him packing! Also, if he is sent off with a big severance package, doesn't the public have a right to know how much of their money is going off with him and how much of their money it is costing to keep him where he obviously does not want to be? Why should these city workers lose their jobs to pay for this snake's horrid behavior? Not a very flattering picture of Mr. Egotistical. Amusing! He looks like "Dumb and Dumber"
