The selection of a company owned by state Rep. Rudy Martinez, D-Bayard, to manage maintenance at the new Fort Bayard Medical Center has led to some allegations of favoritism, but both Martinez and a New Mexico Department of Health official insist that the contract was awarded in compliance with all state laws.

Looks like a conflict of interest to me. Should a state employee or contractor also be a state representative? In many states a state employee would have to go on leave while serving as representative, and a state contractor would have to leave someone else in charge of the business. The fact that Martinez sees no problem with it is disturbing.

His hand has been caught in the cookie jar. Everyone invovled in this deal should be flogged and should not be serving as a public servant. Integrity, honesty, and good decision making is lacking and they all need to be removed from government office. It is obvious it is a conflict of interest and people like this have a self entitlement. It makes me sick. Remove him from office and anyother government official doing the same thing.

one other point, if he is head of hte grounds and buildings why wasn't the building that was burned rebuilt or torn down. It was insured by Risk Management the state's Insurance Division? WHere they paid insurance money for this building, and if so where did the money go?

Why was this only advertised in a Las cruces paper, could that be because it would be less likely other people would bid on it? Seems like favoritism to me. I wonder how big the ad was and what days it ran. I imagine it was as small as can be and only ran on off days so the chances anyone else would see it would be slim.
