What do you think about the Arrest of Melissa Jones 28 for Criminal Sexual Abuse? She was the wife of an assistant pastor at the Salem Baptist Church. His name is Dean and he is the youth pastor. According to news reports she was counseling him for his addiction to porn when the child and her started having sex 3-5 times/week.

I agree that we should not judge Melissa Jones. God is the one that is going to judge her. I personally know her and if you knew her you would not understand why or how she would do this. She is a sinner just like all of us. She is just saved by Grace like I am. We all make mistakes and have to pay for them.

God loves each and every one of us and he let jesus die on the cross to save our sins. She has sinned but its not like she wont pay for it. I think that she has paid enough. To loose a church that hurts and for your husband to loose their job is even worse. She is prolly going through so much. What we need to do for her is pray!! thats the most important and i hope you do!!!

"For if you forgive men for there transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. "But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.(Matthew 6:14-15)

I do not think that she should be kicked out without church discipline. I mean we speak it... but we verily use it. I believe there was a lot of saving face in this. The church is a great work... God has blessed it. What if, she was there to counsel? Why did Pastor Dean or Salem allow it. You don't have a girl counseling a guy for anything without the husband there. Not throwing up an excuse, but was he so wrapped up in the church that she wasn't getting the attention that she needed? Your family is your first ministry. I guess you can second guess all day long... How is the boys family? I pray that every breathing soul in that church, looks to pull the mote out instead of the spec in others. For any person in any church, they cannot ever say that it will never happen to me. I do hope that the church just doesn't kick her to the side. She is still a Christian Sister. We all need to come along beside them and not chew anyone out, not accuse or judge, but to say hey we are truly here for you. Both her and Dean.

I agree with Cyrus 777. We need to pray for this family. To set the record straight, Pastor Dean nor the Church "allowed" this counseling. In fact, they weren't even aware of it. This "counseling" was used as a smoke screen to cover for the affair. This has been a devastating event. As for Pastor Dean, he is a victim here. He was a very attentive husband and is a great father. I was a personal witness to his behavior during this last week - and he has displayed the most Christ like characteristics I have ever seen. He is now paying for the sin of his wife as he has been removed from his position - through no fault of his own. This family and church need our prayers and Melissa needs help. Please don't judge others without getting all the facts.

I'm close to this family. I wanted to make sure that people weren't saying bad things about a good family and church. Unfortunately, the media loves these types of stories and people tend to jump to the wrong conclusions.

I knew Dean and Melissa from back in the high school days....except I was in Junior High then. We all went to church together in Peoria. They are good people. Dean was always considered one of the guys to look up to for the guys, and Melissa was a huge role model for the young girls growing up in the church. Always friendly and sweet, we were so excited when they got married. I saw them when they were in a church down in Louisianna working, and again when they were in Decatur. People make mistakes. Sin is sin in God's eyes. No matter what anyone says, or does, now what has been done is done. Melissa will have to face her punishment, here and there. But God forgives, as should we. We don't know what was going on, deep down inside. She did the right thing by coming forward with this. She didn't have to do that, but she did. That says a lot. I know this has got to be an incredibly difficult time for Dean, and the children, although they are probably not fully aware as to the severity of it all. All we can do is pray. Show support, because the eyes will be on all, and right or wrong, judgement is going to be passed... so let God's light be what they see, and how with him, these tough times can be overcome.

I have known Dean and Melissa since they have been at Salem. I have been attached to the church for over 15 years. First off I want to say, I am sorry if I came off like I am looking down on anyone. I love the church and the Pastor very much. I would not want any harm to come to the work there. Here they are getting ready to build a new building,Dean was marked to take over the church as Pastor, and then ole ugly shows his face. Everyone makes mistakes either in ministry or not in ministry. This is a big shame. But my biggest thing I wanted to get across, I dunno if it came across or not the right way. Is I hope we don't shoot our wounded on this one. That's all. I am basically saying it should be a reality check for us all.

I have been a member of this church for 30 years and I agree that everyone makes mistakes and it does not matter how big or small they are the same in God's eyes. I still look up to Melissa. She is a very wise woman in the Lord and I love her. She just needs a lot of prayer as well as Dean and the kids

IF WE SPENT MORE TIME LEARNING FROM THIS OURSELVES INSTEAD OF ARGUING OVER WHETHER TO PRAY FOR THEM OR JUDGE THEM ,WE WOULD ALL BE BETTER OFF. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH DISCUSSING WHAT PEOPLE HAVE DONE WRONG. SHE TOOK THE CHANCE OF PEOPLE FINDING OUT WHEN SHE COMMITTED THIS CRIME. IT IS A CRIME, BY THE WAY, SHE WILL BE PUNISHED. I HAVE KNOWN DEAN AND MELISSA FOR YEARS, USED TO ATTEND CHURCH W/ BOTH OF THEM. PRAY FOR THEM, YES, BUT DON'T LET THE "JUDGE NOT" PHILOSOPHY GO TOO FAR. THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES FOR EVERY WRONG DECISION MADE IN THIS LIFE: BE SURE YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT!! IF YOU COMMIT CRIMES, PEOPLE WILL KNOW, YOU CAN'T EXPECT IT TO BE HIDDEN, EVEN BY FELLOW CHRISTIANS. IT IS WHAT IT IS.....

I've also known Melissa since high-school. She was a mentor to me during a rough time in my life. I find myself in no position to judge her.

"IT IS WHAT IT IS" commented that "there are consequences for every wrong decision made in this life". I'm prepared to go one step further. There are consequences for EVERY decision in this life, whether right or wrong. Even though wrong decisions reap terrible consequences, good decisions reap blessings.

I find the whole incident to be an unfortunate situation. It's nothing more and nothing less. And, honestly, it goes to prove that no Christian is above any sin. 1 Corinthians says, "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall". I agree with the above poster - we would do better learning from the sad situation, before we worry about whether or not we should judge someone else, especially a fellow Christian. Satan wanted to destroy Dean and Melissa's ministry and he did whatever it took. We would do well to pray for them and leave the judging to the Lord.

I don't know Dean & I've never met Melissa And I certainly don't condone her actions But I feel that it would have been in the best interest of everyone involved had Pastor Thompson not turned Melissa into the authorites...
I think that since this young man was of an age beyond puberty, her actions could've been dealt with within the church rather than with the law. I mean after all, she did come forward to her pastor to confess rather than being "found out" some other way; granted, I don't know the whole story so there may be more to it than was reported
From what people who know Ms. Jones have said about her, I believe incarcerating her is definitely not in the best intrest of anyone involved in this matter....
As for Pastor Thompson, I watched the video of his interview and the manner in which he says: "What she did was a betrayal. She betrayed my trust in her, she betrayed our churches trust in her, she betrayed her husbands trust and she betrayed the trust of the teenagers... and there's absolutely no excuse for what she did"... That reminds me more of something a prosecuter would say rather than a caring pastor.... That statement to me, makes it sound like she sexually molested a 6 year old or she commited a murder of the first degree.
If I were a pastor, I would understand that people can make mistakes- even if they were directly targeted at me, and I would counsel the young lady myself as I'm sure she is devestated at BETRAYING THE TRUST OF HERSELF as well as all of the above that the pastor mentions.... As an outsider looking in, it sounds to me like Pastor Thompson is only concerned about the public image of his church by making it clear that she has been "kicked out"... Between He and Mr Perry they talk like Melissa Jones is the scum of the earth- and I have a strong feeling that is not even remotely the case... A good church should try and help all people through times of crisis...
Well I want Melissa to know that I'm praying for both her and her husband because I am sure they are both good hearted people and I hope that Dean is able to forgive the sin of his wife and that they stay together forever... and I pray that melissa stays out of jail.... And I pray for the "victim" of this situation in hopes that this affair hasn't ruined his "purity"... and last but not least I pray for the ANGRY people of the Salem Baptist Church in hopes that they can lighten up the rigid attitude and forgive Ms. Jones because everybody makes mistakes

I've had issues with SBC of South Shores for so long, it's ridiculous. Instead of loving all of Gods' children, they chose to evict one from the crowd simply because I didn't have a skirt clean and wore pants. ONCE. After that, the bus didn't pick me up.
I feel sorry for the victim but not for Melissa or her husband or Pastor Thompson. Suck it up and deal with it, you're grown. Get that kid some help and a different church.

Do you people listen to yourselves... oh people all make mistakes, we need to learn to forgive because god does..blah blah blah. This is the problem with you religious types, there is no constancy in your statements. If this did not happen to one of your people (i.e in the church community) you would push for the death penalty. Think about humanity and if this were your child abused sexually. Why is it ok to look so negatively on others and try to justify one of your own. GET A GRIP ON LIFE... THERE IS NO GOD, JUST HUMANITY.

Shocked, You are intitled to your opinion. Most of the people responding to this sight are friends and family. True family like that of Dean's stands by you through thick and thin. Is what she did wrong - yes! Should she be punished according to the law - yes and she will be. We realize actions have consequences. Don't interpret support as overlooking the issue. Getting and giving forgiveness doesn't take the consequence away. It's just the right thing to do. Now it would be wrong to turn a blind eye to the sin but even more wrong to harbor unforgiveness over them the rest of their lives. This type of forgiveness isn't natural or easy especially when you love the people who are involved and who are hurting. We would do anything for them. Forgiveness comes from God and knowing Him. Well pray for you to find Him too.
Those of you who are like myself and are friend and family make sure you are making your support known to Dean and his family. It's one thing to write your feelings here but your words of support and encouragement would be even better when expressed to those who need it. We have a wounded soldier, lets get around Dean and his family and do everything we can to let them know we are here. Write a letter make a phone call and put them on your prayer list. Do it NOW!!! Don't just be hearers, be doers. Merry Christmas to you all.
