Do you worry about your children's safety no matter where they attend school?

Ok I was hoping to start a conversation that would result in open dialogue about this...and as usual someone has to treat someone like crap

Yes, I was very concerned about sending my babies to school today. I realize that it can happen anywhere but feel that we need to make our schools safer. I would love to hear ideas on what we can do to make ourselves and our children feel safer.

More qualified cops on campus. Longer jail time for violent offenders.

Jail time IMO is a joke. They get food and clothing and "rewards" for good behavior after their bad behavior that got them there to begin with. Atomatic death by victems family if found guilty of a crime against a child or other person might make some of these repeat offenders think again. I have NO tolerance for people that prey on others.

Yes, most school administrators are more concerned about their paycheck. The latest fad is getting a 504. You can even get a social security check. You can use it to get out of class, doing your homework, it is basicly a get out of jail free card. The special services department needs a total overhaul. I am sorry if that means some overpaid individual needs to be fired but waste is waste. I think our tax dollars should be used towards legitimate educational purposes and providing a safe learning environment.

I'm way out of the school loop, haven't had kids in school in 40 years...so what is a 504?

I believe a 504, is a plan that the teachers, parents, and counselors come up with for mentally challenged, or children with ADHD, autism and such
