Christina, I want to thank you for everything that you did for Alexis. Unfortunately, they both did not survive. I am friends with the Aunt and this has hit the family very hard. She was on her way home from Arkansas to visit family for the holiday. For complete strangers to stop and help them is truly a blessing and I will pass this along to the family. Thank you

Well Dah! I was having some difficulties pulling up this whole thing and responded without taking the time to read through. Apparently you already know about the baby. But anyway, thank you again to you and everyone that stopped to help.

Hello again thank you for all of your kind words about me. I decided that I am going to go to the funeral on Friday the family wanted me to come. I was not at first because this was a time for family but I was told that I would be welcomed there. I found out the other ladies names who helped me with Alexis. One is Barbara England, and the other one was Stephanie Kind from San Antonio, TX. They both are sadden about all this and their prayers are with all the family.
Thank You

Many thanks to all of you who have blogged to this tragedy. Carmen was my niece. She was an exceptional woman with deep rooted Christian principles. Her parents are Mark and Paula Johnston of Jackson, Tn. They are doing as well as can be expected under the horrific circumstances. I want to extend my sincere thanks to all who stopped to render aid especially Paige and Christina you are both angels in your own right. The memory of Carmen and ALexis will live on forever.

They had to take the baby (Alexis) off life support on Monday. I am a friend of the baby's grandmother, and I am sure that they all would appreciate your prayers. Funeral services will be held at Arrington Funeral Home in Jackson, TN on Dec 5.

Hello my name is Christina Russell and I live in Ripley, Tennessee. I was driving when that horrible accident happened today on I 40 where the rest stop was where that white car that was going EB crossed the median and slamed into the other car, what looked like a black small suv type. Well I was one of the 3 ladies who were helping to save the baby who was thrown out of the white car to save that angels life and i was wondering if anyone might have heard through your news if she made it or how she is doing. I am a ex-army RN and EMT and stoped to help with what was going on. There were 2 emt guys from that area who let me go and also help them while they take that little angel to the hospital If anyone knows who they were please let them know THANK YOU. I am pretty sure the mom did not make it but I would like to know if the baby is ok and how the mom is also. I am just concerned about how the little girl is doing, i'm not asking for any personal info just concerned and cares.
Thank you

I posted after I read the 1st post - sorry to repeat info. Both Carmen and Alexis were loved. I hadn't seen Carmen since she was a girl, but her mom and I stayed in touch. Our prayers are with Nick and the family, and our thanks go out to all of you who were there to lend aid at the accident.

God bless you all.

I just want to express my very deepest sympathy from the bottom of heart for this entire family! This is the worst I have ever seen! I also want to say that I hope "Nick" will find comfort in future! As difficult as that seems right now, follow your heart and god will walk you through the rest.**Good luck to you and your entire family in the days to come**

You will always live in our hearts and prayers and May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

I am Carmen's aunt from Jackson, TN. We said good-bye to Carmen and baby Alexis yesterday and it was very difficult. We loved them both dearly. Carmen's mom is my older sister. When Carmen was born I felt like she was my baby too!!! She was a beautiful baby, like her own baby Alexis. We were able to watch her grow into a beautiful Christian young lady and are thankful for the 20 years we had her. She loved all of her family very much. Of course Nick and Alexis were the love of her life and she loved Nick's family like her own. We have a very close family too, and Carmen was traveling with Alexis to see all of us when the accident occurred. We were making plans to go to worship services together and then be together at our parents' home. Carmen's parents and brother are making it through all of this with the kind words, prayers and love expressed by sooo many. We appreciate those very much. I want to also try to express my appreciation to ALL of you who helped at the scene of the accident. It touched me to know how much you all cared and have expressed that care to us. Thanks, Christina, for coming to the funeral home and for the gift for Nick. Just meeting you and visiting with you seemed to make everyone feel comforted. Paige, thanks so much to you for the beautiful flowers. It touched us to know that you also did everything you could to help out. "Turk" was also loved by Carmen's little family and we have sweet pictures of Lexie enjoying him. It meant a lot to know that you even helped him out too. We have heard other such touching stories of the many strangers who stopped and could be heard praying out loud for our sweet girls. Men on the scene held their coats up for protection as the responders tried to help. We will never forget all that everyone did that night. It is just proof that there is still good in this world!

I would like to extend my sympathies to the Lowe family. Nick’s aunt attends the same church I attend and the family was devastated by the news of this untimely death. When something like this happens it makes everyone realize the brevity of life. Our family mourned with yours.
