I am starting my own personal boycott I will not spend another dime in Forest City Arkansas why should I support a town when I am having my rights taken away from me and basically telling me the hell with you and your children The Forrest City School Board has decided to hold on to my children and and there is nothing I can do about it I am asking that the business owners of this town make a stand and call out the School Board on this stupid decision of opting out of school choice we the decent working tax paying support your community minded people of this community need your help we have always supported you. Why would you not support us see we have no representation on the school board at this moment. It has always been in the past school board members have been comprised of Business leaders of this community I am asking that other people also boycott until pressure of coarse if a business is willing to stand with us it would be much appreciated
if you are willing to boycott please reply

You have the right to move too.

The board has to prevent the exodus of the few remaining white students and upper-class blacks. People may not like it but they are protecting the FCSD as a whole or what is left of it.

I think it is stupid to have the school choice law if a district can just opt out of it if they want to. Why swing a steak in front of someone if they can't have it?

You know, it may not be that easy to just move. Have you tried buying or renting around here? A shack rents for $400 a month. The thought of prison employees moving here jumped the prices up years ago and when the moved to other cities, they never came back down. Crazy!

Why stop the boycott with the City? The State legislature passed the law that allowed Districts to opt out of the law. Call State Rep. Marshall Wright or Rep. Reginald Murdock. I did not like the decision to opt out but understand the reason they went that direction. I am white, my children attend FC schools and we are satisfied with the education they are receiving.

If you are truly going to boycott be sure to look at your varying bills you receive for your home if you live in town. There are franchise fees collected that go directly to the city. After all, if you are going to boycott do it right. Why would a business you are willing to boycott stand with you? I cannot see Walmart or Food Giant telling people not to spend money in their stores as a form of protest against the schools.

While you are at it please explain to me how not spending money in FC affects the schools. It would make more sense to boycott paying your property taxes since that is where the millage is applied.

Contact your State Senator or State Representative.

I understand and your frustration
I am one of the lucky ones who's child was grandfathered on on the school choice because we applied and were accepted 5 years ago.
I will pray for your children like I pray for this town

I think what this person is trying to say the general rule is that if your community has a good school it is good for the overall economy no one wants to set up shop here and relocate here at least with school choice it might make it easier to make the decision to do so. I also believe that this person is saying that
in the past board members where made up of leaders in the community that understood this concept as the school goes so does the town no one on this board has any interest on the success of this school and if not who does ? it has the be the owners and operators of what few business's are left they have more to loose
than anyone what person that owns a business wouldn't want there
business to grow from year to year this can not happen the way we are going unless you are Wal-Mart where half of your business is from foodstamps.

I don't always agree with the board and have mixed feelings about the school choice law. My kids go to school in FC but to say no one on the board has any interest "on the success of the school" is about the dumbest thing I have ever read on here. As I said I don't agree with some of the things that the district/board does but I also understand I don't always have the info they do. Other than their interest in the school what could anyone on the board have to gain by serving without compensation. There is a board election every year I suggest you run. I'll find out who is up this year and report back.

As for a boycott, I find it unlikely any business would support it, that's a dumb idea as well. Call your Senator or State Rep, they passed the new choice law.

Its all about the money they cant afford to loose anymore students instead of focusing on ways to make this a better school and gain the support of people they would rather pull a trick like this.

That's right...if it was going right to begin with most of these students would still be there!

I heard several parents have hired a lawyer, I would like to know who the lawyer is and get in with them. I personally think that FCSD has taken our rights as parents away, that is to have a choice in where we want our children to go. Parents have NO rights when it comes to thier children and schooling in the Forrest City area!! Maybe parents can put a strike on the first day of school and dont send your children until we get some rights back.

How about someone" take a stand" and support the schools.

Take a stand for the school? The ones that do NOT respect our rights to make decisions for ourselves, when it comes to where our children can go or what our children can wear? I don't think so. They already have enough rights

They followed the law. There were exceptions for districts under federal desegregation orders.

Wrong desegregation law does not apply here that law was passed over a fear that white's would
leave and start there on School we are not talking about private schools but publicly funded there was a fear that this would happen
the board is hiding behind a fifty year old law that does not have any legs to stand own I think most people believe this is about white flight but actually this is about black, green yellow, red etc. This is a slap in the face of any one who desires to give there children a good education not saying that any of other schools around us is any better but we do have that right. Its all about the money.

So its back to racism, shouldn't that be against the law?
