Raleigh, N.C. Two workers at the federal prison in Butner and two inmates were sentenced Monday on bribery charges.

Natosha Latay Owens, 34, of Knightdale, James Christopher Ford, 35, of Greensboro, Ralph Ames, 32, of Bronx, N.Y., and Dwayne B. Dollson, 40, of Trenton, N.J., pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy to bribe a public official. Owens, Ames and Dollson were sentenced two years in federal prison, while Ford was placed on probation for five years.

Owens worked in the kitchen at Butner Correctional Facility from 2003 to 2007 and sold contraband like cigarettes and a cellular phone to inmates, authorities said. Inmates used a network of friends and relativesinmates, authorities said. Inmates used a network of friends and relatives to provide money to her, and she provided contraband to the inmates while they were working in the kitchen.

Authorities said these inmates would then resell the contraband to other inmates, who would often resell it again, each transaction resulting in a higher price and profit.

Ames also was a kitchen employee at Butner who obtained contraband from Owens. Dollson purchased a cell phone through other inmates who obtained it from Owens, authorities said. Ford purchased and resold cigarettes from other inmates, who purchased them from Owens, and Ford used the proceeds to run a gambling operation inside the prison, authorities said.

Three others convicted in the scheme are awaiting sentencing.

"Employees at all levels of our federal prison system must abide by its highest ethical and legal standards to ensure the proper functioning of our prison system," U.S. Attorney George Holding said

I also had problems with sending money through WU from my home computer. To those who say prisoners should have all rights taken away, let me remind you that not all convicted are guilty of what they are accused. Also, take someone like Scott Ritter, had to be caught for the third time in a sting trying to seduce young teenage girls before being arrested even tho he was caught the other times in sting operations. Too often the guilty go free because of WHO they are; but then someone 'suspected' is convicted when their crime doesn't even compare to such as Ritter's. I will be making my first visit to a friend soon and Tim Outlaw, the warden, will definitelyt hear about my visit, regardless of how it goes. I will let him know exactly what did and din't occur. Others please SPEAK OUT about what is happening. Write the Dept of Justice/FBOP..address is on internet.

I am also tired of the treatment there as well and they are getting worse. This past saturday 10/25/2008.they didn't start visiting until 9am 1 hour pass POLICY allowed 5 people in then the rest waited for atleast an hour did they allow visit to last beyond POLICY time??? HELL NO. We have to start taking names and writting to Washington D.C. the address is on bop.gov that is the only way of defense against them. The warden is being notified now. Hopefully there will be justice for all. We are all equal in gods eyes.....
Yes i visited my son over Thanksgiving & cant the same treatment. They have a new warden also, need to start written our Congressman!

...its like kicking a dead horse......is that all there is to discuss, one issue? What about the damnable vending machines, or the lousy plastic chairs, the menu served the inmates, the lack of heat, and proper sanitation. The disregard for dental care, and medical follow ups, lack of flu shots, rampant TB, maybe if we address more than one "visitor" issue many more problems could be influenced. Listen I never gave prison a sencong thought all my life, which is a fair time, so I am responsible for what my goevernment has done with its prison system. remember, it isnt really any group that causes the problems in a nation, it is human nature.I have been forced to take a hard and cold look at what others has endured for years, to my deaf ears , I might add. I frankly never cared until I had to live with this prison issue.. Says little about me as a person...but..now I want it all changed...human nature. I feel about the same as Michael Jackson when he wrote about the Man In The Mirror.
We, as a country do have a pretty poor prison system, so ....write about your complaints to your representatives, senators, SEnator Webb of Vitginia has been trying to get some prison change...Shiela Jackson, if nobody hears your compalinats you may neeed never have said them. Yes I know I am rambling more than the Ohio River, but...this is a portal to change.
WELL SAID!!!

I agree with what you are saying about the GOVT. But, a criminal is a criminal. It's sad that family members are neglected or are miss treated but, the person in jail is still a criminal. I beleive they should lose all rights and be treated with no dignity due to the fact that they did committ a crime against society and they should be treated like a criminal.
A person is sent to prison to learn a lesson not to be treat as if they have died and went to hell. Prison should be like a learning center - teach the people who have committed crimes how to live life without criminal activity. I can understand that the people [guards] may think they are teaching them not to come back to prison because life is hard but it only teaches the person to be hateful - which in turn makes the criminal feel they have to be harder. Prisons offer church services, GED courses, a library, a working environment...these things are there to help a prisoner and when you have a guard who is constantly kicking the person when they are down is just wrong. I am not saying guards or others who work in the jail systems should be treating the prisoner as what they did is okay. There is a way to teach the prisoner what they did is wrong but abusing (mentally and physically) then is not the way to go about it. I know that when someone is constantly putting you down and treating you like dirt does not teach you to be the great person you could be.

===They are police wanna bees but never could cut the mustard and were not educated enough===

I don't think so, I know that's not the case for all. In fact my spouse as a degree. I know some inmates do also, wait they got their degree in prison. Don't complain about someone else job until you do the work yourself.

Don't go and visit the inmate if it's that much of a hassle. Heck, I've told my spouse the last thing I am going to do with myself and our children is waste our time in waiting in the car on the side of the road or in line on a weekend to see them if that's the turn life takes. Geesh, we have way to much going on with our weekends to waste our time with that.
