Vandling Sausagemaker's Recipe??

I'm trying to find the recipe for a smoked sausage I would buy in Vandling, from "Kerosec's"...a little meat market/store on Main St. in the 1960's-1970's.

I believe the owner's name was Ernie Kerosec. His Kiełbasa sausage (I think he called it "Gronner Baloney", if my spelling is right) is what I'm trying to find the recipe for.

I remember it had some coarse grind black pepper in it & probably a bit of garlic too. It was made of a very coarse ground meat (beef with a little pork maybe?), and was smoked to a nice mahogany color.

I have never been able to find a sausage anywhere as good as this, or with a similar flavor, so I'm trying to duplicate it.

If you remember this sausage and have ideas, memories, or suggestions on what it's ingredients were, please respond with a posting here ...or email to:

Please put "recipe" in the the subject line if you email.

Thanks for any help you might provide!

You probably correct in what he called it. I used to hear people from Forest City and Vandling referred to as "Gronners". I do not remember ever having any of this guys stuff. I grew up in Simpson, and my grandparents made their own. I never learned how, as I was rather young, even when they stopped making it. Then we just bought ours from others who made their own throughout Simpson. There is still a place there where you can get a sausage similar to what you described. Its called Opriscos and they sell great smoked and unsmoked kielbasa. I pick mine up when I go to see family in that area, but they will ship direct to you as well. I have their number but dont know if its proper to post their number in a public forum without their approval. Respond to this post and we can figure something out if you wanted to try their kielbasa.

Thanks for the info Gunther! At least the "Gronner" part wasn't just my imagination.

Is Opriscos in the Simpson area?

Please email me their phone number, & I'll try giving them a call sometime soon to see if they'll ship an order out.

Thanks again!
