I would like to know what other people think about a Walmart being built in the Carbondale area. Also what about a Mexican Food Restaurant. What about a roller skating rink next to Weiss and Dollar General where the kids could walk to that would affordable.

There are upwards of ten thousand people living in Carbondale, not to mention the lower Susquehanna County communities, and the residents of Childs, Jermyn, Mayfield and Waymart. That is a lot of people who more than likely eat, go out to eat, and that need some kind of place where their children can go to hang out. There is nothing wrong with investing in Carbondale, if you want to make money. I think that the new parking lot is a good idea, but not a great idea. I think the best way to boost the business downtown would be to move the police station off Main Street.

I really doubt Walmart wouldn't even consider building in Carbondale. Not even Kmart would open there. Now another dollar store maybe!

Walmart, Kmart, OH lets look at the proposal of a parking garage connected to a hotel on main street so it can be used for all those convent non business adventures , ah yes this all makes since in a area that has coal cracking veggiated state of minds of the past and that is still holding on to an idea that industry is still alive in a retirement community,
yep , yep, yep, and looking at more taxes to be raised to boot in a depressed retirement area to boot all so ,
yep, yep, yep , and suck the home owner taxs payer dry some more for some more misstakes that may be developed from it all.
OH yes when will you all learn before it is to late and then do something yep, yep, yep,
May be you all should stop going to Burger King and Donut shop and start going to the Dinner down by Mall and see what reality is.
and may be you should play bingo some more may the right number will come up to win ,
Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep,.........
I think I'll go and have good cup coffee down at the dinner at the mall.
and see what other people are doing.
yep, yep, yep, yep, yep,.........

Thank you.

Hi Julie .......
yap yap yap ..........I have to agree it rocks ok with taxes, utilities, occupational taxe gone up to fifty four dollars a year, and now the town is imposeing an extra twenty four dollars on the sewer bill which it all ready went up during the last year and no guarantee on what it covers for the home owner.
and garbage fees gone up.
yap yap tap it rocks ok .all of this and then some all gone up and more homes are going to be up four sale in a depressed area
where there is hardly no substantial jobs that pays a wage that can keep up with the riseing cost of local needs.
Yap yap yap yap Carbondale rocks and it is causeing a rocking riple effect for other communities that are striveing to stay above water.
Carbondale rocks.

Hi Jenell
Sorry for all yeps yaps , Some times points have to be used twice to get a yep yap across to people .
We live in a part of the state where we have a lot of people that need to know the truth about a lot of things.
I admire people like yourself that want to learn the truth.
Our way of living during the last thirty years has change a great deal and we have to change with the times a little bit or we will either be lost or die inside and not advance to where we should be life.

thank you for wanting to lean more about what is going on.
thank you.

WOW ........Walfart, K-Fart, and How about a Ole-Fart.
Sounds stupid dosen't it..........
Lets get practical about the field of dreams for this area.
What they are subpose to have and what they really need are two different things.
Lets look at the idea of ripping down the whole shopping center and put in great big giant shopping building and a movie theather besides , and a parking garage.
and call it the upper valley Carbondale Mall.
Now that would be a meds shot in the towns arm.
And besides all of that Lets put in town houses for the seniors and a gulf course besides and press the laws to get after the slumb areas of the town .
Oh lets put in a more eating places of better qulity.
OH , Oh , Oh , Someone wake me up, Oh Someone wake me up..........
I am dreaming in the field..........
OH, OH,.........

I no longer like Walmart. I think they are trying to take over the entire goods market, and then make it so that if you need any kind of item or food or whatever, then you have to go to them. Did you know that they are making it so that many of their suppliers become financially week, which then would result in Walmart being able to swoop in and take over their supplier's companies. Did you know that Walmart is buying up grocery store chains all over the world? Look at a site called "The Walmart You Don't Know." It is interesting, while I am not religious, that in the bible it says that in the last days that we will all have to have some kind of mark on us in order to be able to buy food etc. It looks to me like Walmart will be the place that everyone will have to go to.

politics runs deep in this town you have to be a resident to understand it. the older voters vote with their blinders on.and subsequently raised their kids to do the same. you could be the biggest moron with a pulse and win any election as long as your a democrat. so many times the better candidate was overlooked due to party status. joe vadella did win but he had to change his party to do so. as for the wal-mart i doubt it. and as for the parking deck on main street thats the biggest joke in the up-valley. if you want to put a parking garage anywhere in carbondale put it at the hospital where its really needed. this town will never change neither will the citizens and remember why......its easy to be sombody no-where than it is to be somebody somewhere.

I remember Joe Vadella did change his political party and ended up going to Federal Prison for dirty unlawful politics....... Voter Fraud I think... I think he could have done more for the city.... Too bad he tried to complete this by breaking the law.

I do agree Politics do run unfairly deep. However, I think the perception of Carbondale has gotten better over the last few years.... I hear that there is over 40 million in revitalization in and around town i.e. YMCA, Pioneer Plaza, Street Scape projects, The Shade Tree Projects, Skatepark, etc...

I saw Gov. Rendell on PCN not long ago stating that the City of Carbondale is the perfect example of an old coal city that is successfully rebounding from its "dark age" from enormous investments. He stated that he visited and delivered millions... He must believe..

Hopefully, Carbondale can renew it's consideration of "The Hub of the Upper Valley" by completing these abitious projects..

Tell a kid that he's stupid and going to be a jailbird. He has a good chance of fulfilling that prophecy. Why should it be different with your hometown? Tell all the kids "there is nothing here". You'll increase the chance that there will not be.
Positive words ( No I'm not talking fantasy) bring positive energy.
I don't know if it will happen, but I am hopeful that the remaining productive citizens will band together and make it work.

There is a skating rink in my town. The preteens use it Sat and Sun night. There is very good enforcement of proper behavior, so I've never heard of problems inside. Early Saturday mornings families with younger kids go.During the week they have "Christian skate night" for church groups and others who like to listen to contemporary Christian music. I don't know what is the breaking even number of families around to make it viable. Maybe pairing it up with a pizza place or something would work.
