Well said, Ms. Ritchie.

Duke's propaganda matches that of Phillip Morris ads to help smokers quit using their products.

As long as Senator Robert Byrd DEMOCRAT and former KKK leader from West Virginia stays in the senate until he serves 100 years coal will be king. Sorry Eva coal is here to stay. There aren't enough mountain tops for wind mills to make up the difference. One of the so-called green nations is France. They use nuclear power for 85% carbon free electricity. They have made the VW Bug model of nuclear reactors. Each plant is a mirror image of all the rest for standardization vs. the our way of making each plant uniquely different to complicate the equation. If you build the same palnt a hundred times you eventually find all the glitches and get the bugs out. Yet the enviros condemn the one available source of clean source of energy with scare tactics as seen in the China Syndrome. The secular progressives are never happy, but if you're always miserable it's understandable. KUMBAYA.

Certainly no propoganda in a letter from someone with a group that contains the global warming fraud as part of its name. Coal is abundant and relatively inexpensive; it is also a fuel source we don't have to troll overseas to find, or engage in hysteria over offshore drilling. Yet it's not good enough for the greens. How about nuclear, which France - as another poster points out- has managed to use safely for years?
Can't have that, either. Here's the real message from the greens - it's not about energy consumption, it's about the West's lifestyle. They simply don't like people having prosperity and the freedom to make individual choices. The green movement is the new home of socialism/communism, hiding behind its desire to "save the planet". That phrase is the heighth of arrogance, as if man has the capability to overcome nature.

Such a lovely title.

Absolutely. We should be building Nuclear power facilities and we should be building them as fast as we can.

Well, lets all get together and hate coal. That way we can do as they do in California...every 2 hours you get electric...they somebody else for 2 hours...sounds great, doesn't it?
Until you can get someone sensible in this country who isn't making money off the Sky is Falling and tell it like it is we won't have to worry about coal or anything else for that matter.
I loved the thinking of the guy at the meeting objecting to the power plant because he had lung trouble...it was gonna hurt him. Has he asked himself what happens when there is no power?????
What will happen if he has an emergency and can't put gas in a tank to get him somewhere for care because the pumps are off?
Sure Duke will make money one way or another. So what...the drug companies are making money off from poison, the meth labs are going great..everybody is happy that doesn't look ahead.
I used to have a little thing framed that had printed on it:"Think Ahead"...only the A-H-E-A-D was run along the side of the frame. Wish I had kept it...it was never more appropriate than in the 21st century. If you can say there is much thinking at all going on!

RE: "Six million tons of CO2 every year to choke an already burdened WNC sky......"
What a lot of BS! Of all the products of combustion of any organic material (i.e. an oxidation/reduction reaction, including every dead tree blowdown or stump rotting in the forest) CO2 is the MOST DESIRABLE. All the others are much worse in every respect. Every green thing MUST HAVE CO2 to survive.

Eva must not be getting enough attention in the Hendersonville paper so she has to post up in the ACT. The woman is looney tunes and a laughing stock even in Hendersonville. Only the other kooks and farleftnoids give her any attention. Maybe they are abandoning her and she is looking for a new scratching post.

The United States could reduce the carbon going into the atmosphere by 2,200,000,000 tons a year and be 15% better than the Kyoto standard if we simply produced the same percentage of electricity from nuclear power as France does today.

Aww but don't mention that to the alarmist in the global warming camp. The Left Rev. Al has them convinced that carbon credits are the only way to go and he has just the right company to purchase them from. Not only that he happens to head up the company. Follow the money Eva and stop worshiping at the alter of the Stern-ly Gored.

Now to the main subject of Clean coal.
No Duke did not lie that is just part of the farleft global alarmist propaganda. Actually Australia has been processing and using clean coal for some time now. The same information that Duke has researched is part of a combined sharing of information between the US and Australia. Australia has some of the largest and richest coal fields in the world as does the US. They have figured a way to make coal burn clean. This short article explains it in part. As you will see Flordia already has a plant using IGCC process.
Again the complaint is not about coal it is about economy and people like Eva wish to see this country lagging farther and farther behind and eventually controlled by the UN who has also swallowed the carbon credit theory hook line and sinker. For more on that google Nichlos Stern -Carbon Credits. A full plan for ruination of the US and other industralized nations. His follower and worshiper Al Gore also fell for this line. But back to the subject.

IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle.)

After the coal is turned into gas by careful burning, the gas can be burned again to run a gas turbine to produce electricity, and then the excess heat produced by this process further used to heat a boiler to make steam and therefore more electricity.(A gas turbine is a bit like a jet engine, but in reverse, by using burning gases to drive turbines and therefore produce electricity).

An IGCC plant has many amazing features:

* 10-15% less Carbon Dioxide released.
* 99% of the Sulphur Dioxide removed.
* No small particles released into the atmosphere causing pollution

An IGCC plant could significantly reduce air emissions to those below many countries Clean Air Standards. There are power plants throughout the world operating using IGCC. For example the Tampa Electric Company in Florida, USA is operating a 250-megawatt power plant using IGCC, which is 10-12% more efficient than a conventional coal-burning plant.

Sorry, Ms. Ritchey, I'm not going to allow my 84-year-old mother to sit in the dark during the rotating blackouts which will inevitably result from your worldview.

I attended the DAQ hearing in Forest City to attempt to speak in support of the plant. I was 90th on the list and had to leave befor my name was called. But, as you no doubt know, far more attendees spoke in favor of the plant than against, so I felt comfortable in leaving early.

This ain't California, and I don't think you can sell them on the tree-hugger agenda here -- at least not to the point of embracing rotating blackouts.
