I live in fontana and i think it is bullshit!!!..my dad has been buying fireworks here before i was even born, i am now 18, and i was hoping to one day take my kids here in fontana and take them to a fireworks stand and let them pick which ones to buy, but now , that dream is crushed. The REAL reason they want to ban fireworks in my opinion is because they know people are going to sneek in fireworks from other cities that havent banned them, and then they can have the police give them a $1,000 dollar fine, so say if 100 people got tickets next year for having "safe and sane" fireworks, then thats $100,000 dollars that the city and government gets!!. thats what its all about, they dont care for our safety, ive never heard about one single person getting injured by safe and sane fireworks. its one thing to ban illegal fireworks but to ban safe and sane fireworks is just ridiculous!!. what next a ban on lighters and matches??? i am so furious!!!!

I am happy to see this finally going into effect. I have lived in Fontana almost my entire life and I have witnessed numerous injuries caused by fireworks. Too many are abusing fireworks in the city of Fontana. Be it on July 4th or thereafter. I feel relieved that our families, homes, pets, and environment are going to be safe.

This is ridiculous! I've lived in the Fontana area all my life and as long as I can remember we've always had fireworks for the fourth. What the hell is the fourth of July without fireworks! Big thanks to the JACKASSES on the city council for taking away the one thing that made this great holiday unique. I think it might be about time to re-locate my family out of the city now run by communists!

this decision sucks!! i have lived in fontana for the past 7 years and the 4th of July and the display of fireworks have been one of the highlight of our year. my entire family gets together and we watch all of the kids on the block have a blast. i have yet to see any injuries, of course the parents on OUR block are cautious, the pay attention, and do not let their kids run a muck. we should not all have to suffer as a result of the careless idiots that get their fingers blown off screwing around. And to the alcholic, irresponsible parents that have allowed their kids to get injured, THANKS ALOT!!!

I'm so disappointed with this decision. But expected it to happen eventually. I grew up with fireworks on the 4th of July, and now in my old neighborhood it is illegal. But, I have been able to continue this tradition living in Fontana.
Banning fireworks forces families to lug their kids to a overcrowded "controlled" event such as parks and fairgrounds. But, really, it's not like someone can't get hurt there either.
I agree with Richard, Cite those using the illegal fireworks, let us keep the Safe and Sane.

I love fireworks. Watching the Fontana residents' fireworks is usually more fun than watching organized fireworks. However, common sense has to take over at some point. This is the driest year in Southern California's history. FIREworks poses a huge FIRE hazard. I don't think the concern here is people blowing their fingers off or the city getting money from the fines. Maybe the city actually wants to protect its citizens from, oh I don't know, FIRES. Use your heads people!

This is sad. But I'm used to the communist level of big brother's foot on our neck ever since I moved to cali. Can't wait to get out of this state.

This is the lamest thing I have seen since I decided to move to Fontana (which in turn was also lame). Smoking poses a higher FIRE Hazard then fireworks but I don't see that getting banned. Fireworks are 1 day per year and smoking is 365 days a year. Not to mention the fires are caused from already illegal fireworks not safe and sane ones. This is another example of rights being taken away from citizens without getting to
truly vote on the issue.

Banning fireworks in Fontana is a ill-advised decision. Fourth of July is a time of remebrance of independence something the Fontana council is trying to take away from us by banning fireworks. Many children, inclusively adults enjoy a safe evening with their family. Why does all of Fontana have to suffer for the alcohol addicts and irresponsible citizens of Fontana? Fontana council members are on CRACK!!!!

Well, the bad apples indeed spoiled the whole bunch...
Personally, I have no problem with fireworks...But, since one cannot make another act responsibly, there's really no choice...
However, what offends me is the timing of this ban, July 5th,2008...And, from what I've read, they weren't even supposed to begin selling them until noon TODAY (July 1st), which we all know isn't the case...Nothing like letting the abusers get in one last shot at damaging something...
Finally, I want to know one thing...If this ban is implemented on July 5th, does that mean the Police will actually respond when residents call and report them going off in their neighborhoods?...

I am watching the fireworks right now, as much as i like seeing the pretty lights i don't like seeing them being set off by 4-year old kids. in addition, last year we had them going of every night for a week until six in the morning. i could understand if people were responsible with them but, in this case they are not. several of the adult54s who are doing them are hitting cars, and one has already nearly started a fire.

Its not the California Safe and Sane fireworks that cause the problem.
Its the already illeage ones.
Why ban something that is not a problem?
Inforce the Laws that you already have and stop making new ones.
FYI
the Ban is going to get overturned due to people against the decsion of city council.
