They should be arrested. If they weren't you would be the first to bitch about it if someone who jumped from there died and you knew them. It is just plain ignorance not to read the signs that say no jumping. But yet lets all cry when someone's best friend dies while jumping with them. Stupid, stupid people, maybe if parents taught their kids not to disobey the law then they wouldn't have gotten arrested. I don't feel sorry for them one bit.

this "intelligence" sums up the issue perfectly.. and this is why signs and fences will not keep people from going there.

Seems its always people outta town.! Never hear anything about Canajoharie residents. The signs say it all swim at your own risks. WE cant keep police officers there everyday on a hot day to wathc for kids going to the falls to jump. Its definitley your own decision and life or death one at that. You never know whats down there like Price said in the paper, "the water moves so fast one day a boulder could be there and the next day it not." So sad to see that we have such a beautiful landmark in canajoharie that gets abused. Pretty soon the whole park will be closed and residents wont even be able to enjoy.

the police r just doing their job. the laws r put in place by the people voted into their office. the laws r an effort to protect the village money from lawsuits. the JUDGES, who award large amounts of money, to the families of kids who act like kids and end up paying with their lives; are the ones at fault. No one should get money from our village because someone ignored warning signs and jumped for the thrill or who choose to be too drunk to be aware ot the risks i believe the families insurnace should pay for our fireman and rescue expenes, when someone makes a poor decision i belive the warning signs should read (swim at your own risk no lifeguard n duty) and leave it at that

i agree it is our freedom but like every thing else when people sue when it is there fault that is why the police arrest or ticket. i am not a fan of big government or the police and petty bullshit but if u jump u should not b able too sue that is the bottom line.

it is a free country that s democratic it is not a do as u want then when something happens u don't get punished country. the laws r there because someone had a lawsuit and that is why we r where we r. i will give a n example u come and rob my home u slip and fall in my house while stealing from me u can sue. now tell me how that is rite this country and it's stupid people r ruining for everyone. if u want a thrill get a job go to work everyday buy a pool and fucking swim. don't jump from a waterfall get hurt then sue.

You hit the nail on the head. The Judges that hear these cases are to blame. There are signs everywhere that say no tresspassing, no swimming, no jumping due to violation of law and the village still gets sued by the parents costing them a truckload of money to defend. These cases should be thrown out of court. Unfortunately we live in a society where a posted sign means nothing.

When I was a kid wintergreen was a state park, we could camp, swim, etc. Think of the revenue the town is passing up, the village would be out of the whole in no time, they would get more for camping fees, reopen the little store there, allow graduation parties etc...They have the tools for new revenue in their hands, use it! Hire some of these youths to keep an eye on the park as an internship for the summer. Explain to them the importance of safety, make it their top priority. You have a beautiful school, a beautiful park that is not being used the way it should, Why? The police dept. should be out chasing real criminals, not our youth. Give the responsibility to our future leaders, instead of treating them like a pest under your feet. These young people are the future, give them some responsibilities now. If they go to Canjo. you know they can swim, are physically fit, and mentally competent. Start believing what you tell them. Think of the revenue for the village and surrounding towns if this did happen. More customers at locally own stores, gas stations, etc. You would not have to raise these taxes so much, because of the tourism it could and would pay for itself. At least take this idea into consideration...
