I am pretty darn sure that if the shelters that are provided by the county reached capacity or even if someone simply couldn't make it to one of those shelters for some reason, the police would allow the PD to open up as overflow shelter or case-by-case.
I would certainly hope so Ollie.

You have ragged on this subject during the latest storm. As a citizen I do not want local citizens sheltered at the Justice Center. It is disruptive in times of emergencies. Several buildings some to mind. The old Foley High school building on Pine, the old Chamber building, have with stood Frederick, and Ivan.
Tell you what, break from the law and I'm sure they would be glad to provide you accommodations at. The Justice Center. In a cell.

Foley High is no longer used as a shelter due to being South of Hwy 98. The primary shelter for South Baldwin is the Colisium in Robertsdale. This was built to stand 200 mile per hour winds with federal funds for this specific purposes.

Wow.... This is what our great nation has become I guess. Many folks wanting only the government to meet their every need. I will take care of myself and my own family, thank you very much. For those of you who are looking for their government to solve their every problem I suggest you man up and take care of yourself and your family and stop sucking on the government teet.

Imqngttia, I will send someone from the government to wipe your butt the next time nature calls ok?

RIGHT ON !!!!! You have toads wandering around after a weather situation trying to find help with something they should have been prepared for by themselves. Big brother will not always be there to wipe your azz, Better learn to do it yourself!!!!

That's fine with me. Then don't make me pay taxes to build a shelter and don't make me pay an additional 1% Baldwin Sales Tax to educate someone else's kids.

Your taxes paid to build an ema facility to provide you information and guidance. It paid to build the facility in Robertsdale that can hold thousands. I think that is sufficient. Able body people should take care of themselves based on the information distributed to the public. The elderly and lame should go to Robertsdale

You will have an opportunity to vote down that 1% TEMPORARY school tax soon to make sure it stays temporary.

So do I. And, I have always taken care of myself but it is nice to know that my taxes have provided a shelter for me if I need it so that I don't have to go to Ohio just to get away from a hurricane. I guess this is Socialist thinking but if it is--tough.

This discussion is about a FOLEY shelter. Foley is in zone 2, which means a cat 2 and above is a required evacuation zone. The government is not going to build a shelter in a zone that will be a REQUIRED evacuation zone. Ohio.... Really?? That is where you think you have to go? If so, you need to go to the shelter where the elderly, lame, and impaired should go.

"The government is not going to build a shelter in a zone that will be a REQUIRED evacuation zone."

I was told that the Justice Center was built to withstand a hurricane and that is why it was also used as a shelter for families of the police department. If not built for a cat-2 then what was it built for and according to you, it should not have been built as a shelter at all if Foley is in a required evacuation zone. Something doesn't make sense here. I used the Justice Center during a hurricane a few years ago because a member of my family was a police officer. Contrary to what you said, there was no disruption to the work of the police by those of us being sheltered. There was a custodian who made sure the bathrooms were kept clean, etc. and everyone just staked-out a piece of the floor to set up their cots or sleeping bags. The small children played in a certain area which bothered no one. Someone in the department even prepared a pot of chilly and there was always a pot of coffee available. I and others put money in the lunchroom bottle as a 'thank you' for all of the employees and policemen. We kept out of their way so they could do their work so we did not interfere with any emergencies that came up where their help was needed in town or elsewhere. Everyone was behaved and cleaned-up after themselves before leaving after the hurricane passed. Frankly, it was no big deal and all of us were close to home so that when the danger was over, it did not take us hours to return to our homes from "OHIO" or other distant places where other people evacuated too out of justifiable fear of the hurricane.

Emergency responders, Police and fire are required to stay to protect those that do not leave and businesses from looters. Hence, their ability to stay in the justice center. There are probably 25,000 people in and around the city... Do you expect them to open it up for anyone who walks in?

You should be appreciative that you were allowed to stay there once, rather than complaining about not being able to always. You should spend your efforts preparing yourself and your family rather than spending your time trying to imply you are somehow being deprived of something. As your name suggests, give me a break.

I hope you don't think that I am as stupid as you are. Of course, every building as a maximum capacity and everyone knows that. You can give me a break by getting in someone else's face. I talk sense and all you want to do is argue. Go find a stooge that wants to play your games.

Maybe I am reading his response wrong, but I did not see it as getting in Antibes face. You asked a question about why there would be a space for shelter, he answered it. I agree with wimp. Prepare yourself and your family and stop worrying about the government doing it for you.
