Restoring trolleys in downtowns is an excellent idea .

There should be bikes and buses everywhere and no cars or trucks.

lanta's 12 year plan should be a phase-out. Mass transit can not work in area that has a population density like the Lehigh Valley has.

At least LANTA is trying to look to the future. We've spent about 7 decades building out our communities so that we can drive everywhere and get there in 15 minutes. We've spent pennies on transit and plenty of dollars on highway infrastructure. We expect there to be a viable transit system after all that investment in alternatives?

I was at the evening meeting in Allentown and not many people showed up. But there were a number of comments about how sensible the plan is given the amount of money available.

It is easy to say negative things about transit. It was good to hear the positive and about plans for the future.

All one needs to do is read the Call's almost daily I-78 traffic report to know mass transit is the way to go if one travels shorter distances. Smaller fuel-efficient buses and trolleys will do wonders to attract new riders. I applaud Lanta for hosting these meetings to allow the public to express their views.

At their meetings LANTA has a bunch of phone books for Marin to sit on so he can see over the top of the table. The only thing big about him is his ego and ideas to promote himself.

Another transportation question: Why does Penn Dot put up signs on some roads that read, "Penn Dot Thanks this Ten Year Participant". Why are they thanking the road???

Penn Dot sucks. I love sitting in traffic on the turnpike and then paying the guy at the toll booth. What did I just pay for? 2 hours of torture because of their roadwork.

Is there a way to get the breakdown of dollars spent, fuel used, miles driven per passenger on the Lanta system in Allentown?

That way, the people could see whether it was worth it or not.

ok so lets make it happen I would like the choice on how I get to NYC and Philly Train Buss Car whatever cost less. Most of the people I know in the area go to NY, Philly, Newark why not help improve the time of the trip, price of the trip and allowing people to keep more money in there pockets. Let the Public know whats goin on a TV spot would be nice im sure people would pay attention then.

I drive the PA Turnpike everyday. From Philly to Allentown. Only day I really hit traffic is on Friday but it usually only tacks on maybe 15 minutes making my ride a hour and 15 minutes. I usually travel in the right lane at 65-68 so it's pretty smooth sailing, none of the flying at 85 mph then slowing down to 55 mph then speeding up again.

I travel from Seoul to Busan about once per week for meetings. It is about 6 hours by car and just over 2 hours by train going 300 KM/HR.

You don't know what you are missing by having world class mass transit. Clean, fast trains are the future, just as mass transit is a needed resource in any area greater than 1.5 million persons.

Lanta need to address the poor service they are offering the handicapped individuals who use the handicapped buses. It is not fair that people are made to wair obscene amounts of time to get the bus for things like dialysis. My Lord, are these poor souls being made to pay and additional high price for their disease by these long wait times.

IT IS NOT FAIR, and LANTA must address it. They staffing issues are well-known and not at all acceptable! Fix the problem, those of you in upper management, if you have any sense of God or a conscience. Just do it!

Less than the subisidzation of US under the Federal Highway Act and not high enough for my tax rate at the highest level to be 39.6%.

What Federal Highway Act "subsidization?"

The HW Act gets money from the federal gas tax. If you drive a car on the highways, your car needs to be fueled by gas. You pay the same gas tax as everyone else, and everyone pays for the roads to be maintained.

However, if you ride a train or bus you get a discounted rate b/c it is subsidized by tax monies paid by people who do not ride the bus or train. And most of that subsidization of mass transit is paid for using the gas taxes we all pay.

I say we try charging people riding transit what the real rate - the rate that it would take to operate and maintain transit systems without any subsidization.

If I choose to ride transit, then I should also choose to pay for it.

If I choose to drive a car, then I should be able to choose my gas taxes go solely for fixing the roads and bridges I drive on.

POW!
